On a Pagan Yahoo! group I belong to, I was asked about the elements of Kemetic Wicca. I wound up writing a little blurb for them so I figured I would share it with those here who may be interested.
To me, Wicca represents a love for The Goddess as well as a God. There is no favoritism between genders. They are both almighty. Wicca includes a love and a deep respect for Mother Earth. Wicca guides me in working with energy. It allows me to engage in rituals, which I see as a very dedicated prayer. It allows me to write my own spells and to manipulate the energy around me to obtain my goals. Wicca reminds me that I am but a spoke on the wheel of life.
Kemetism combines Ancient Egyptian religion with my love for Wicca. Instead of just one God and one Goddess I have multiple Gods and Goddesses to look to. Each represents different things. I have a Patron God, Anubis. I would do anything for Him. He is everything to me. I look to Isis as my new Mother. I look to Thoth for wisdom and creativity. Thoth's help comes in very handy when I am writing my own Wiccan spells. I look to Sekhmet, Tefnut, and Bastet for help in other aspects of my life. More will follow when They feel the time is right.
By combining the two religions into Kemetic Wicca I get a lot of flexibility, although that is not my reason for choosing that path. I actually chose the path before I knew a label of such existed. Wicca found me and I accepted and embraced it. Then the Gods and Goddesses started making Themselves known to me. I welcomed Them into my heart and I love Them at levels that cannot be measured.
More about the flexibility though. I can still draw a circle like many here do in traditional Wicca. I can use this circle for worship, spellwork, meditation, or whatever I would like. It is my circle. I can also work without a circle now though. Ancient Egyptian Magick is very powerful. I do not know all the rules yet, as I have not utilized any of the Ancient Magick yet. There is no need to rush. I am taking it all one step at a time. If I need something until then I have Wiccan magick, and there is nothing wrong with that at all. Knowing which Gods and Goddesses I am looking to helps me pick more appropriate offerings at times. Certain Deities like certain things. It only makes sense that if you were asking one of Them for help on a matter that you would offer Them something They liked, much like making someone their favorite meal because it is their birthday. I do plan on starting a new topic on special offerings at another time though.
There are conflicts though, but you will get those any time you get into the complex merging of religions. The biggest one is what happens after this lifetime. Ancient Egyptians believed that your body should be embalmed so that your spirit had a place to return to. I do not believe this is true. I do believe that I will be guided to The Underworld and I do believe that reincarnation may be in my future. I do not believe I need my body from this lifetime for either. Therefore I do plan on being cremated as to return my components to Mother Earth. Now, there is nothing wrong with my ashes being put in an urn that represents Egyptian Entombment, is there? To be honest, that is the only conflict I can think of offhand and it really is no biggie.
Well I hope that this explains where my path is taking me. If I missed anything I would be glad to answer specific questions.
