He shouldn't be bullied.

He shouldn't even have a voice. The only reason why we hear this moron is because some other moron is pointing a mic in his face asking him stupid questions, all in an effort to make us even more stupid.

Ha! Saying they shouldn't point a mic in his face is like saying saying the 400lb woman in the Muumuu with curlers in her hair and no teeth shouldn't be the trailer park interviewee after a tornado.

He's not that attractive - or important. He's a minor character that represents a small group that the media can rely on to say something - or a lot of things - that are absurd.

He has the displeasure of being a public figure, so of course people are going to say things, especially when they get as far out as some of the things he says.
Sadly, there are probably more people that pay attention to him because they love to hate him than people that pay attention to him because they are fans. And it's not like he has a TV show and a massive audience pull.

He does have a tv show. He has the ability to say whatever he likes on it. I don't know about what kind of audience he has, but I've watched just for some eye rolls.

He does? I didn't know. What's it called? I could use a laugh now and then.

I didn't know that (obviously). I knew he had some videos and made TV appearances here and there and has the occasional appearance on Fox News, but not a TV show.

Yeah, I'd have to go look at my listings, but there's a particular Christian channel that carries it in the afternoon.

Really? If that's what he's saying then I agree with you 100%. However, it sounded like he was being told he couldn't voice his opinion and he does have the right to do so, no matter how ignorant that opinion might be. I agree he needs to man up and take the flack that comes from stating your opinion but for those who say he should be silenced, they are just as ignorant as he is.
I think what he's asking for isn't just to be able to voice his opinion, but to be able to voice his opinion unopposed.

I think he's upset at the hatred directed towards him and I think its pretty sad too. I pity Kirk more than hate him. He isn't a threat and while out spoken I haven't really seen much evidence of society taking him seriously so why hate him? Those that do are only justifying his viewpoint.

hate is subjective. the fact that you view the free speech of homosexuals in response to cameron as hate speech reveals that you yourself are not homosexual. from a homosexual's perspective, kirk's comments are not only hateful, but irresponsible and harmful, as it only fires up and empowers the homophobic right wing base...

Kirk Cameron to ABC News: 'I should be able to express moral views on social issues'

It is a strange world indeed when I find myself agreeing with Kirk Cameron.

I didn't really like Kirk when he was a kid on TV and I find him a minor annoyance now that hes an adult. But he's right that if asked a question he has a right to answer it honestly. While I disagree with his viewpoint I don't think he should be bullyed into silence.

Thoughts.

He absolutely has that right. However, he doesn't have the right to express his opinion with impunity. If his views were correct then he should have no trouble defending them. If they are stupid, then it is a different story. It is going to be a little harder. If he doesn't want people to criticize his beliefs, then he shouldn't put them out there in the most public forum he could possibly find.

Oh come on now, he has been washed up for years. If he didn't want to be in the public spotlight he could have easily been forgotten a long time ago.

You quoted out-of-context. Kirk's full quote was:
"I should be able to express moral views on social issues, especially those that have been the underpinning of Western civilization for 2,000 years — without being slandered, accused of hate speech, and told from those who preach ‘tolerance’ that I need to either bend my beliefs to*their*moral standards or be silent when I’m in the public square.”

He wasn't claiming that he wasn't allowed to express his opinion, he was claiming that he should be allowed to express it without backlash.

I don't think he's saying that. I think he's asking people to be respectful. I, personally, don't think slandering someone, accusing someone of hate speech b/c you don't like what they're saying, and asking someone to change their view b/c you don't like it is exactly respectful. I think there are better ways to express disagreement in someone and/or their views without resulting in attacking them or their character. That's what I got from what he was saying and I agree with him, if that's what is being implied here. Express your opinion, express your disagreement but do so with respect to one another.

The same can be said about many statements made by non-Christians about Christians in general. I've seen quite a few comments here about Christians that I would consider hateful and irresponsible but it's unlikely the individual feels that way at all. However, I would never slander them or berate them or yell "hate speech" as a way to show my disagreement with them. I would find a more respectful, intelligent way to address my disagreement, explaining why I felt the way I did. If they continue in their view, I simply agree to disagree, respecting their right to feel the way they do.

gee i wonder where the vitrol stems from...

i don't suppose it comes from any sense of being subjected to dogmatic beliefs or being told they are wicked if not for the grace of their god

naw..couldn't be that now could it?
