Kung Fu Movies

One of my favorite things to do in my past-times is watch kung fu movies. from old Shaw brothers classics like Thunderbolt Fist to Born Invincible (imo this has to be one of the most over-rated movies ever....sorry guys ***shrugs***). I think my first introduction to martial arts films was the one station that they had that would do the back to backs

in this thread im hoping to get a discussion going on the films, etc.

i've posted some of my favorites:

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the movies subtitled though. I will check them. Thanks again.
As for the Kung-fu movies I already saw, apart from Jackie Chan's old movies, I believe IP Man series is one of the bests. Thanks.

I really didn't like "Kung Fu Hustle" at all.

Should watch the Chinese language version with subtitles if you haven't. The English-dubbed version seems like it was translated by people who didn't get most of the jokes, so they changed them.

There was another English-dubbed version that was a lot better but it's hard to find.

I hate it when they do that to foreign movies/shows/games, etc. don't butcher and water down the original into something you think will be more palatable. It's never necessary.

Yeah. The only reason I can watch the English-dubbed version of KFH is because I know what they're supposed to be saying. :p

I agree Kung Fu Hustle is much better sub-titled. Its a great movie all-around, not even strictly within the martial arts genre. I always prefer the subbed versions of anything because in many cases the dubbed voices do not capture the emotional content the actor is portraying.

I pretty much like any and all older martial arts films as a general rule. Some of my favorites include:

Enter the Dragon (of course)
The Street Fighter (Sonny Chiba not Jean-Claude Van Damme)
Shaolin Master Killer

Some Jet Li movies I love:

Kiss of the Dragon
Hero
Unleashed

Some other more recent films:

The Raid: Redemption (haven't seen the second one yet)
Ong-Bak
Red Cliff (not strictly a martial arts film but excellent)
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (I had to say it)
Xu Warriors (the uncut version the other one is godawful)

Agreed on Kung Fu Hustle, best kung fu movie ever made.

Absurd, badly acted, completely over the top, unrealistic and grossly politically incorrect. LOVED IT!
