It Is Time To Pay Close Attention To The Lambda Variant Now Devastating South America

It was discovered in Peru in August 2020.
Looks like after a year it could be gaining traction.

There are and will be more variants. The more people get sick, the more chance it has to mutate.

Key is how fast it spreads, how deadly it is and how effective current vaccines are to prevent at least serious illness and death.

Also we should start getting information about how to do things to help people who have caught it. With colds there is advice such as "Stay warm, and take a tylenol if you get a fever," but with covid there is no home advice, yet. I, personally, would immediately take some kind of anti inflammatory to prevent damage to my lungs, particularly if the hospital couldn't take me in. I don't see doctors much, so any time I get the tiniest wheeze I do that. I do it whenever I get a pain, too; but that's not medical advice. There isn't any advice for people at home. We have a shot, but information about treatment is still limited. That may improve.

1. It’s been around for a year, and most people never heard of it?

2. If this is Lambda, what about all the other Greek letters between delta and lambda?

From what I can glean, Lamba has been outcompeted by Delta. Delta has a biological advantage over Lambda.

As far as I know here are the variants as of June/July....

Alpha: This variant was first detected in the United States in December 2020. It was initially detected in the United Kingdom.

Beta: This variant was first detected in the United States at the end of January 2021. It was initially detected in South Africa in December 2020.

Gamma: This variant was first detected in the United States in January 2021. P.1 was initially identified in travelers from Brazil, who were tested during routine screening at an airport in Japan, in early January.

Delta: This variant was first detected in the United States in March 2021. It was initially identified in India in December 2020.

Delta plus
First identified in Europe in March 2021.

Lambda first detected in Peru in December 2020.
