late for church

One Sunday morning a little girl in her Sunday best was running so she wouldn't be late for church.

As she ran she kept praying, "Dear God, please don't let me be late to church.
Please don't let me be late to church...."
As she was running she tripped and fell.

When she got back up she began praying again...

"Please, God don't let me be late to church -- but don't shove me either!

Theres more to this joke.

When the little girl got to the church building the doors were all locked.
So the little girl prayed again and said "I'm sorry God they wont let me in"
God replied "Don't worry my child, I've been trying to get in there for years, and they wont let me in either"

as good as religious based jokes may be, can we make sure this doesn't go from being relatively humorous to insulting, please? ;)

If the shoe fits then wear it.

If a person is insulted by the joke then I am sorry that you think your church falls into the same catogory

Instead of asking if the shoes fits, how about you take a walk in that persons shoes, and then buy them a new pair and actually care.

I'm not offended one bit. I know that there are churches out there that claim to preach the truth, but in reality end up getting swallowed up in their own self-righteousness. We've all seen it. I don't think Mystic-als is trying to offend anyone.

I agree. The joke doesn't mention any particular church and, therefore, seems too general to be offensive to anyone. I'd actually have to second Mystic-als' response. Anyone who finds the joke offensive would appear to have doubts about their own church, or at least to have a very thin skin when it comes to religious faith, which does suggest a certain insecurity.

I'm not trying to be offensive in the least. So seriously if it is offensive to you. I am sorry. beckysoup61 I think that is the point of the joke. Our ministers shouldn't preach something and not allow God to be part of their "godly" meetings.
I have taken a long walk in the shoes of a christian. I was one for 20 years. There is very little about church workings and politics that I am not aware of or have not experienced. And about the caring part. I do care a lot, but people make their own life choices and not you or I can change that. However difficult it might be for us to see.
About buying them a new pair. The only thing I can say is that if a person thinks that their church isn't living up to it's responsibility to their people in regards to following what God wants, then they should find a new church. ie change shoes.
