Laveyan Satanism v. Setianism

Can someone explain to me the difference between the beliefs of Setianists as opposed to Satanists?
All I know about Setianism is that a group of disgruntled high-members of the Church of Satan decided they Lavey and his Church were corrupt or something like that and went off to form the Temple of Set.

I haven't been able to find much help on this subject, even on Xeper.org. As of now, it seems as if the Temple of Set is either overly secretive or simply a dieing movement... or both.

Lilith of the TOS said they were the COS "grown up". Lavey referrred to the TOS as a living version of Laurel and Hardys "Sons of the Desert", take it as you will, and truly investigate for yourself if you feel it's worth your time and effort if you really want to know.

from the best of my memory, setianism is more closely related to gnostic luciferian religions IE: OTO, Thelema--i havent spent much time on TOS so i couldnt tell you much more than that.

Gnostic Luciferianism relies more on lucifer as the bearer of light---and often confirms a true belief in the existance of satan, as opposed to LaVeys philosophy which i am quite sure you are familiar with. Most gnostic groups, luciferian or otherwise, trace some sort of roots to the egyptian set (wow what a suprise)--which is more or less the equivelant to the christian version of satan/lucifer. Some even trace their roots to the solar and lunar cults that Albert Churchward wrote about in his work The Arcana of Freemasonry that he claims existed over 100k years ago.

I honestly don't know much about the TOS other than the fact that they are extremely arrogant (even for my tastes) and they think they own some kind of copyright on the worship of Set. I have yet to meet a Setian that I liked although I'm certain they must have some admirable qualities.

anything stemming from lavey would have to be inherently arrogant, no?

That's why I said "even for my tastes." Any LHP religion is going to be arrogant to a degree. I just find the TOS excessively arrogant...to where it doesn't really serve a purpose. This is just my experience with them.

There's a fine line between self-righteous and arrogant.
Religion itself is self-righteous by nature.
Satanists just have the balls to admit it.
Yes- we are self-righteous people, and we have the right to be.
It doesn't make us arrogant.

I do have the sneaking suspition that the Temple of Set is overly arrogant, simply because of their secrecy. Secrecy almost always means stupidity, in my opinion.

I'm sorry that you may have had some unsavory experiences Mr. Danisty... The Tos is secritive for two reasons my friend. We don't want to open our doors because what others may find may also ultimately judge, but judged by those who don't want to learn, but rather blow whistles, secondly, that if this "judging" occurs than we may be deem too great of a threat, or maybe too little of a threat. Therein lays a problem... I'm sure you too can find problems to be unsavory aswell.

I checked out the Temple thoroughly before I became a part of it and I didn't have any trouble finding all the info I needed. It does require one to use ones skills in research-because you will Need them- but its out there.

Anyway, whats with the constant infighting with Satanists anyway? I get the impression that in the COS you have to many people trying to be leader enforcing their own opinion, and not enough democracy.

Actually there is nothing at all scary about Satan/Iblis (freedom), its the exact same construct as Yahweh/Allah (oppression/slavery) simply the other side of it, and they do go together as man created constructs. The Gnostics knew the demiurge Yahweh as The Evil One and that is why they were wiped out and their literature destroyed, to make room for the true Evil that became Christianity/Islam to come into being and enthrone their malicious and oppressive agenda as a force in the world. As anyone with Eyes can see- this has been the case. The one solace we have is as stated in that twisted work of fiction called the bible-There will be no where to hide from what they have created, and it is so to be alive to see that unfold.

As with any "grouping/gathering" of people honey,
(religious/church, acadamia, business, job, family, social clubs, politics etc etc)
people are people.

And people seem to like "pecking orders".
