I think there is definitely something to it. But I don't know if I agree that regulr affirmations will always do the trick. I think that believing something can be very powerful, and that we can attract the things (or be attracted to) that consume our consciousness.

What is that?

What is this Law of Attraction you speak of?

Remember the book The Secret?

Just FYI, this is in a DIR forum, so pay attention to your posts so that this does not turn into any debate. The book (and it's message) has tended to create quite a stir from both supporters and critics.

Now, if this wasn't what the OP meant, my apologies. :)

So you mean stuff like this?

"A more modern consensus among New Thought thinkers is that the Law of Attraction says people's thoughts (both conscious and unconscious) dictate the reality of their lives, whether or not they're aware of it. Essentially "if you really want something and truly believe it's possible, you'll get it", but putting a lot of attention and thought onto something you don't want means you'll probably get that too."

It assumes that thoughts are also vibrations and they influence the envirnoment.

Ah, I see.

So like, as if reality is a "goo" that is able to be "molded" by thought or something?

I'm not sure what the new thought explanation is, but in many eastern spiritualities, the universe is believed to BE consciousness, or thought. If that is true, then it would seem reasonable to assume that thought would influence a world made out of thought.

That sounds a 'lil similar to what Storm believes in. Although I think she's into UU. But nonetheless it sounds kinda similar.

Dunno if I believe in LoA then, mainly because wouldn't it cause loads of problems if everyone's opposite consciences are simultaneously trying to alter reality? Wouldn't it just cause like a huge W-T-F bubble or something?

Unless, LoA are about all consciences being the same, deep down/metaphysically?

I don't know much about it but I'm assuming that it is an overall 'positive/negative' vibrations that affect the world and the consciousness of other people.

Very basically put, if think good, happy thoughts, or are an optimist, good things will happen to you. If you think bad thoughts, bad things will happen. Sometimes, the bad things aren't things that happen outside, but internal unhappiness.

If you also focus on something and believe you already have it and emit positive vibrations, you'll eventually get it. Although, there is actually more than that.

There's more information on this forum if you want.

I believe in LoA and have used it.

To be clear, I don't go about it in way "The Secret" brought up, and since I am aware of source material for TS, I have opinions that are not so favorable about that exploited version of LoA. Those opinions are not pertinent though to DIR. I would just say, Abraham-Hicks material (particularly the book, "Ask And It Is Given") is the source material of TS, and is understood as such, I believe, by anyone familiar with LoA in recent history.

LoA is, putting it as concise as possible, 'like attracts like.' It is not based on what we think about (and want) but more what we feel about what we have and desire more of (or arguably less of).

The material I am familiar with breaks it down to 22 emotional set points which are explained in fairly common sense terms, but also in how each works within LoA. There is actually lots of information through Abraham-Hicks on 'how it works,' though at basic level of understanding, I think it can be understood in say 2 to 4 nights of reading. One thing of note that I think is surprising, to say the novice, is that depression is near the bottom of emotional set points and not say anger / hatred. Again, this is explained in the text for anyone that would care to understand why this is.

Back to OP, yes I use this, but in my own adapted way. I believe we all do, and pretty sure Abraham-Hicks makes this very point. This isn't a thing you need to get as if you've never tried it before. Just that the text can help crystalize thought and clarify doubts one might have from really actively using the thought / energy that is spoken about.

I'm not sure if I can convey any 'wow factor' to how I use this, as it doesn't work that way for me. Perhaps early on, I picked up on it in that vein, but not so much anymore. IMO, the law is always at work, and is how I now understand prayer. I feel I get the understanding at an acute level of awareness, and just about daily see how I am attracting things (or thought patterns) into my life. When it is in the joyful setpoint, it can still be exciting to make the connection to recent thoughts / desires in that vein.

Hmmm, let me see. Like I recently had attitude of gratitude with my overall wardrobe and then 'suddenly' a new garment was added (at no cost to me) of which the design was very pleasing. I would be first to acknowledge this is a 'little thing' but last to call this coincidence. In my world view, there really is no such thing as coincidence.

Even more current would be my having awareness around why I have had recent bout of migraines. Now, this is (on the surface) perceived as less joyful than new garment with pleasant design being added to my wardrobe, but the principle is the same. I just can't see illness any more as 'only physiological occurrence.' I can pretend to understand it in that vein, and am quite familiar with physiological understandings, but I truly believe LoA trumps all that in a logical / rational way. Once identifying the pattern of thought(s) that led to migraine experience, it became around 10 times easier to understand how to let go of this and (let God) bring forth healing that would be received, rather than resisted with further thought blocks that were essentially holding migraines in steady pattern.

Anyway, that would be 2 recent, fairly concrete, examples of how I use LoA in my experience. Reality for me is I use LoA in countless situations and after a particular shift in perception occurs, it really becomes 'natural' to use LoA. Again, more in vein of prayer than anything else.

I use similiar techniques all the time along with meditation practices with great results, but derived some additional insight from those gurus (The Secret, etc). I don't agree on how they explain how it works. But, they are at least catching onto how the inside world affects the outside experience.

How many of guys believe in the Law of Attraction? Have you ever used it to try to change your life somehow?

I did read a book on the Law of Attraction, (well part of it, I dont own it, although O wish to) it was called The Seceret, and is a commenly known book. (I recomend it). I am very much so a skeptic, but I really do enjoy your question, and I cant help but wonder why you asked...?
Anyway, as I said before, I am a skeptic, however, I do believe that there is at least something to believe in when it come to the law of attraction. I mean, if you believe that you will recieve, and think only about getting a million dollars, im sure you will get it, eventually and through time, but not magically all at once. The Law of Attraction can easily be confused as somthing that when practiced, in theory, will allow you to get whatever you want. This is not exactly so. For example, if you really beleive that you will get the money for the 100$ amazing new pair of shoes, im sure you will get it, by thinking about it, thinking of ways to get the money, working for it, and then eventuall receiving it. The Law of Attraction is not only just about thinking of things, but going through the action of getting them. Now im sure it seems like, oh, well everyone does it, but this is how it defers from just about everything. NOT practicing the Law of Attraction would be wanting the expencive shoes, but not thinking you can get them, and then thinking that there too much, you cant afford them, you cant get the money, and then, because you think you cant, you dont think its worth it to try, so you dont, and then you get the expencive shoes.
Honestly the Law of Attraction is kind of a fancey of describing phsycology.
Yes I believe in it, because it is logical to.
Great question by the way!

sounds very similar to Buddhism.

Not sure that I really believe you can make things happen through your thoughts but certainly if you give off a positive aura people respond to you better.

I believe the law of atractino creates everything.

We all use it, though consciously I have used it just a handful of times.

When I did it right, it worked miraculously :D

I believe in it. It's kind of like karma in a way. What you think about, you attract, hence the Law of Attraction. What you give, you get back, like karma.

No, I don't believe in the law of attraction-other than positive attracts positive and negative attracts negative...It does not take into account the reasons that we are here, including karmic reasons..
