LDS fascination

Yep. I know there are different kinds of Protestants. I was hoping there would be a progressive LDS group in the ranks, but I think they formed their own denomination that is cleaving itself to more Protestant tenets, which does not interest me. Maybe it can't be done, I don't know. I haven't visited my local ward, so I may do that.
That all sounds pretty hopeless to me, but yes a visit may change your perspective. What if you attend and feel an angel's touch or something? What if Christmas doesn't come from a store? Suppose we are all crazy and there really are golden tablets, and then you find that out. Well it will be tough for me to accept, and I may not believe that there are golden tablets. That may put us at odds, but at least you will have found your nest.

For some reason, I am fascinated with Latter Day Saints. I like parts of the religion, but don't like others. The thing I really like if they seem very family-oriented, moral and modest. Just clean-living folks. That appeals to me. But I can't agree with some of the doctrine and rules. I don't know why I keep looking into it. Help me sort this out.
You mentioned some of the reasons I joined the LDS church years ago. I found that those things did not make up for the numerous errors and religious bondage that happens once you are a member.
You may find this interesting...

Yes, good people. But how they believe in Joseph Smith and his rewriting of the bible, creating his own bible and claims that Jesus and the Jews went to the Americas frankly amazes me.

It could happen.

My sister was a LDS member for 20 years.

I heard once that quite a few people join the LDS for this reason, deciding the community and ethics were worth putting up with the doctrine.

It's very hands on. Not a religion that you can skip a Sunday if you're tired. I like that in some ways, but I have really liked my Sunday mornings free too.

Check out “Under the Banner of Heaven” on Hulu. You might change your mind about exploring the LDS church. I’m a former member and very knowledgeable on the subject of the church. I don’t hate it like many ex-Mormons and think I can provide a very objective opinion. Let me know if you have any questions. Best wishes.

I think its all or nothing, not something you can just halfway join. I suppose you could visit a church meeting, hear a sermon, sing some songs. Maybe something will pop for you.
This is true. It’s very much an all or nothing church. You’re either worthy of a “temple recommend” or you are not.
