I've been wanting to read the Vedas and other scriptures but ...
Other (Hindu) scriptures are OK (Geeta, Upanishads - there are ten older ones, some very short, one just 18 verses long, Ramayana, Bhagawat Purana, etc.), but do not try Vedas. Vedas were written by a different people in a different times and locales. They are generally songs of herders.
One needs to understand the historical background to understand Vedas. IMHO.

But aren't the Vedas part of the context of the other scriptures? Maybe not the place to start, but to enrich and deepen a person's understanding of the other scriptures? Anyway, however that may be, maybe not a good place to start. Thanks. I'd rather start with some others anyway. My only reason for starting with the Vedas was chronological sequence, but that's not always the best.

In my city of 1.3 million at that time, there were only 3 doctors accepting new patients.
Very different situation here in India. No problem other than numbers / crowd. Free health services. Each person above 70 years of age eligible for USD 6,000 per year towards medical expenses (that is enough for most Indians). World-o-meter says we were 1,428,627,663 strong in 2023.

When I started this, I didn't know what questions I was going to ask, and I still don't. :D Originally I meant for it help diversify people's images of people of different faiths. Then after some discussion I decided that I wanted to get to know people better individually, but I don't know what questions to ask for that. Now I'm thinking that a thread like this might not actually be good for that purpose, and there might be better ways for me to get to know people individually. Well, for example just by reading their posts wherever they post. So maybe in this thread I'll just go back to hoping for it to help diversify people's images of people of different faiths.

I love Jesus. I read His word, the biblical scriptures and seek God to continue transforming my life in Christ to be more like Jesus and help me live out the fruits of the Spirit… love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22). I attend a community church which is active in reaching out and helping members and non-members, Christians and non-Christians. In a practical sense I try to do everything “as unto the Lord”, whether interacting with others, serving in church, making meals for neighbors, cleaning the house, playing with the grandkids, whatever. Overall, I trust that as a new creation in Christ, as I desire God’s will, I am being changed and transformed by God to be more like Jesus.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:2

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 3:18

Do you ever feel like maybe you could be doing more, or you would like to be doing more? I do sometimes. Like it says in my signature, I have some ideas about how to stop procrastinating, but I keep putting it off. :D

Oh yeah, that 'backward' irrelevant country, lol. India is amazing, and improving by the day practically. The next big task is infrastructure, and water, especially. (I guess on this).

Vinayaka, perhaps this will help you to get the picture:
111 Lac Crore Rupees over five years from 2020 to 2025. One Lac Crore Rupees is equal to USD 12 billion.
So, in total USD 1,332 billion over five years. Our economy is keeping pace with government's desires and providing taxes even though agricultural income is exempt from tax and only 15% of Indians pay taxes.

"The number of income-tax payers in India rose to 93.7 million in FY23 from 52.6 million in FY14. The tax deducted at source (TDS) emerged as the largest component of direct taxes, reaching ₹8.17 lakh crore in FY23, almost double the amount in FY18." Google Search 23 Jan 2024

Narendra Modi's government is solely responsible for this development in India; and that is why Narendra Modi, in spite of all Western reportage abusing him, is essential for India. InshAllah, he will win handsomely. Results on June 4. Provision of water, gas for cooking, houses for poor, toilets, are on-going programs. Modi's aim in the next five years is 10 million houses.
Infrastructure development provides jobs.

How has your faith evolved over the years? For example, your ways of thinking about it and practicing it. Did it have a beginning? If so, how did that happen?.

Also, what does your faith say to you about how to live your life, if I didn't ask you already.
I believed in Jesus as a young child. I've gone through a lot of questioning if I would go to heaven and if Jesus would accept me. In high school I had a lot of panic attacks and depression. I'm feeling happier now. I still have an anxiety disorder. Scripture has been a comfort to me as well as songs. The author John Bunyan has encouraged me as well.

The Scripture encourages me to trust in God. My faith encourages me to love God and love one another.

Your signature says that you're constantly looking for knowledge and truth, and you love to learn about how others see the world. Do you have any stories that you can tell me about that?
Lots. I work at a daycare bunch of fun stories from there. I used to dont anymore cover my hair for religious reasons daily. A baby barfed on the headscarf. So I took it off. A kid who never seen me without it on looked at me and said You look ugly.

Now a lot of folk wouldve found this rude. But this was a two year old. I took her words to mean: You look different then I expected and I don't know how to respond to it or explain my discomfort as I dont yet have the language for it.

That's not rude behavior. That's a language barrier and being unsure how to word things and showing me that this kid likes routine and doesn't like what's unexpected.

If you want to know people better...you could continue the thread. Or you could make an interview in the interview forum for a specific user you have in mind to want to know more about. Of course you'd have to come up with questions and who you'd want to interview. This is what @JustGeorge is doing. You'd also want to make sure that user is ok with interviews I certainly am but some folk might not be. Alternately you could come up with multiple questions and post them in the interview place for anyone to answer. Or you could pm folk if you want to make friends with them and the other person is ok with pms. ive made friends on this board that i pm. My inbox is open to everyone I'm open to messages but not everyone is.

I’ve done my share of procrastinating. Yes, there have and still are definitely times I feel I could, should or would like to be doing more. The older I get I realize there is just not enough time in this life to do all I would like to do! It makes me all the more grateful for eternity.

NOTE: I intentionally posted this in the Interfaith forum, which I thought was a non-debate forum.

I’ll be inviting people here to ask them questions about their faith, not as representatives of their religion or other association, but about how they think about it personally and try to practice it. I have some specific people in mind, but if anyone would like to volunteer for it, I’m interested.

(later) It doesn’t have to be a religious faith. It can be any way of life a person believes in and tries to practice.

Good evening Niatero.

My faith has always been the Assemblies of Yahweh. Having grown up in this faith has been one of the most exceptional blessings of my life. To know about the saving Name of Yahweh, and His glorious Son Yahshua the Messiah, is a knowledge that I am so grateful for. Why do I feel grateful? Because people die for lack of knowledge, spiritually and physically (Hosea 4:6). If you lack knowledge, it is your responsibility to gain knowledge so you can find entrance in to the Kingdom. Because although the seed of Israel may be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant shall return (Isaiah 10:22). It's only a small number of people who truly love Yahweh enough to see the importance of using His Name, His Son's Name, keeping Yahweh's Law and showing faith in Him. The world cannot receive the Holy Spirit (John 14:17). It's only given to those who are obedient to Yahweh's Law (Acts 5:32) The carnal nature of the world means they want nothing to do with the Law.

Speaking personally from the heart about my faith I can say this. I have proven just how good Yahweh's Law is. Having grown up keeping the Biblical Laws, I can say that they are incredible tools which allow us to act, think and be like Yahweh and Yahshua. Honoring my parents was probably the Law that I mostly saw benefits from in my youth (before 20). But then other Laws, such as the Holy Days of Leviticus 23 and Deuteronomy 16, the dietary laws of Deuteronomy 14, the keeping of the seventh day Sabbath (Exodus 31:12-18) keeping it as a holy, resting day and other commandments showed the splendid nature of Yahweh and His love He has for His creation. Yahweh did not leave us in the dark. He has guided us in every instance of our life through His Word, His Law and His Son.

Yahshua my Savior died. He died to bring people back to the true faith. That faith is the keeping of Yahweh's commandments and showing faith in Yahshua (Revelation 12:17). People don't realize what death is. The serious nature of death. t's not funny. It's not something that you smirk at. It's not something you scoff at. Yet most people, including Chr-stianity, scoffs at the Law, that is unless or until they are brought in to realization that Yahweh's Law is something good. Neither do many see the need to have pure doctrines. Doctrines based solidly on the Bible and not taken out of context simply because we wish to excuse ourselves from keeping aspects of Yahweh's Law.

The Assemblies of Yahweh is my life. My whole being. Yahshua died for me, I know He exists. I know Yahweh exists. i know His Holy Spirit is living and active. And I know that should I be faithful to keep Yahweh's Law and faithful to my faith, that Yahweh will reward me a place in His Kingdom. Even if there was NO kingdom, I would still want to serve Yahweh for the love that I have for Him. He has been there for me through the darkest periods of my life and there is no other name given under heaven which has the power of salvation, the power to save, other than the Name of our Savior Yahshua (Acts 4:12) whose Name means 'Yahweh (Yah) is salvation (Shua)'. Only Yahshua can bring us back to the path through His blood.

I cannot begin to express in words the love and joy and peace that comes from keeping Yahweh's commandments. The depth and height of the love of Yahweh can only be experienced by those who are willing to submit to Yahweh's Law. Yahshua paid the price. He suffered so much, yet people treat religion as a supermarket experience where you just take bits and pieces from each religion you see fit without having to commit to any one religion. Or even when they commit to a religion, they blindly accept teachings that can in no way be supported by the Bible, such as the Trinity, or infant baptism, or the celebration of Xmas...

The hypocrisy is so great that I am repulsed by it. Yet I am so glad that my faith exists. Had it not, I don't think this world would exist because there is no other body of believers keeping all the Laws as we do. Yahweh is not a monster. Yahshua is not a pushover. They are the ones who breathed life in to us and we have to make the decision that every breath we take must be used to draw closer to Yahweh, to read His Word, keep His commandments and accept the one true faith where Yahweh's Holy Spirit does reside, the Assemblies of Yahweh.

To open you up to asking more questions regarding my beliefs...

I have a few stories regarding personal experiences with my deities. Do you want me to share? I honor Lilith, Loki, Gula Bau, Bastet, and Lucifer/Samael.

Yes, that would be interesting.

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Since I have been moving out of state and by myself, and unpacking box after box after box, I have found the real joy in observing one day a week of nothing but rest. I really look forward to it! Oh, did I also mention that I am downsizing? SO NOTHING REALLY FITS. lol

Well, i am atheist and have no faith in religion at all but if there is anything you want to ask me then feel free. I don't bite (often ;-)
Can you think of some things to tell me about how you live your life, and your thoughts and feelings behind it?

Even if I don't think of more questions to ask, I'm still interested in anything more that anyone would like to tell me about how you live your life, and your thoughts and feelings behind it.
