Rap, for sure. So much of it is misogynsitic, shallow, and meaningless.

This song is about acknowledging that the black community is attacked both from without (thru racism) and from within (thru gang violence):

This song is about child soldiers:

This song is about the War on Drugs and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict:

This one is about visiting a terminally ill relative:

Middle of the road rock; the worst example is probably the likes of Starship, Journey and the like.

As Grace Slick put so succinctly...
"So I was trying to make it up to the band by being a good girl. Here, we’re going to sing this song, “We Built This City on Rock & Roll.” Oh you’re ****ting me, that’s the worst song ever."

Favourites would be metal and the epic, orchestral soundtracks you find in fantasy films/games.
I've recently gotten into Fleshgod Apocalypse because it is metal combined with orchestra and choir. They're kinda like what Dimmu Borgir used to be like.
And I love the Diablo 2 soundtrack, and I've long loved Final Fantasy and Castlevania for their awesome soundtracks.

They don't represent all pop music. Britney and Bieber started out as teen pop and then their sound evolved as they got older and trends changed. Beyonce is R&B/pop. Pop is a varied umbrella term for music that has a certain song structure. In the '50s and '60s, girl groups like the Supremes (I personally prefer the Chantels, but that's me) were pop music (that was before the age of Autotune and you actually had to be able to sing, lol). In the '80s, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, Blondie, the Go-Gos, etc. were pop music. The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Whitney Houston, Bjork, Sia, etc. are also pop musicians. There's also Lana Del Rey, Lorde and Marina and the Diamonds.
I know there are different types of pop. I don't like it. The Stones were trend setters, Micheal Jackson was legitimately talented, David Bowie was an artistic genius, but the genre, pretty much as a whole, is soulless mass-manufactured fluff. I can't even stand Def Leppard because there is just way too much pop in their music.

Thanks, I'll give them a listen :)

Been a little obsessed with Two Steps From Hell lately and only recently got round to actually downloading the Skyrim soundtrack.

I was going to pick Pop, but there are so many good Pop albums from the 70s and 80s. Today's pop though i ridicule as corporate trash. But metal is just ugh.

Have you checked out audiomachine as well? New age instrumental happens to be my cup of tea. :)

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I don't know. I listen to pretty much everything.
Same here. If it sounds good, any type of music is cool to me.

Gotta admit however I am getting sick of hearing stupid rap and hip hop from every single angle these days. Not that I necessarily hate the music itself, but from the insane and relentless way it's played over and over and over in just about any form of media. Alllllll..... the time.

I think my personal sniff test is when I'm in a store and thinking "are they seriously playing that stuff in here?"...my Puritan sensibilities and all :)

If it has a positive, inspirational, or relaxing vibe and the lyrics are decent, if there is any, then I'm usually cool with it. Sometimes energetic is good too. I don't love country but certain types connect me with memories I have with big fans of it. It does usually dominate most disliked polls.

I haven't heard any rap I like even a little bit in the past 7 years or so, had to use that as my vote. Once upon a time I helped someone in San Diego in a studio that worked with rap and R&B. If it was wannabe gansta/drug dealer stuff promoting a ridiculous and pathetic subculture - I wouldn't have.

Jazz. I can listen to something from about any genre and find something I like even if it isn't my preferred genres, but jazz...yeah I haven't ever been able to enjoy jazz.
That's among my favorites yet admittly the brass and xylophone gets on the nerves at times when it gets too centered on during the song. I'm primarly for soft jazz with vocals like Tia and Holiday.

This! Never been able to wrap my head around a lot of jazz. Some of it isn't too horrid, but most of it, eewwwwwww...
I think what gets me a lot with it is that most of it seems too...disconjointed? It has this appearance to me of someone putting sounds from different instruments in a blender and just seeing what comes out. It's too erratic for my taste.
