I really don't care what people decide to do with their bodies. But the diseases is what made me say no. I forget the exact statistics but half of the people that have AIDs now have never had a blood test and don't know they have it. Ever watched the movie "Kids?" Yeah.... yuck. Then they pass stuff on to unsuspecting partners or get pregnant.

If there was a legal method for setting up escorts so that they were forced to be tested, and every client was forced to be tested before hand to weed out the diseases, AND they could actually enforce it all.... I would say sure what the hell.

It would be a good idea to set up a monitoring committee. I simply do not see the point in punishing people for doing what they have every right to do with their own bodies. It only leads to more ruined lives.

My only encounter with sex for pay was with a girl from Atlanta down here on vacation.
She had some car problems and was delayed in returning home. She invited me to her room with no pretention. I knew what was going to happen.
I look back and have no regrets. She gave me a most pleasureable evening and I was able to help her need.
I am not sure if we broke man's law, or God's, or both but it was :rolleyes: nice.

Prostitution is legal in Nevada. Prostitutes are licensed, they're tested every week, and the use of condoms is required. No prostitute in Nevada has ever tested positive for HIV.

Edit: No licensed prostitute, that is.

I feel it should be legalized and regulated, and the prostitutes being tested for STD's before and after each client.

Oh... well then I change my vote to yeah if they do that. People are going to do what they want one way or another. They might as well be measures taken to try and have them do their thing safely at least.

Prostitution should be illegal for the same reason slavery should be illegal. Most prostitutes are enslaved by drug addiction, a history of child sexual abuse, violent and abusive "handlers" and multiple cultural disadvantages. Some are literally bought, or kidnapped and enslaved and trafficked for profit. And this phenomena is growing all over the world.

We not only need to keep prostitution illegal, we need to wake up and begin fighting against it as an illegal business, instead of simply arresting the prostitutes themselves, and letting the real criminals go free.

sounds like you have some inside knowledge there Kadzbiz?

Well, I have been a cop for almost 13 years. I've seen what's involved........and then there was the time when I was 21, but that's another story.....

I know many prostitutes that are on drugs and I know a some that have never touched drugs or been in a violent/abusive past, but are simply earning a living to feed & educate themselves and/or their children.

If a brothel is regulated, then it can be properly policed and the criminal element can be pretty much erradicated. Regulating licensed brothels protects everybody; the owner, the prostitute, the client and to a degree the public. Street walking prostitutes are frowned upon because; it looks ugly, is dangerous, is open to much abuse by pimps and clients and health issues are ignored.

You will never remove it, so you may as well deal with it in the most effective way possible.

Then why is it that in countries where prostitution is legal, sexual slavery is commonplace?

I don't think it's commonplace here. It does exist, but it's not commonplace. What I have noticed though, the sexual slavery is most commonplace in Asian demographics, even in our larger cities. It's quite uncommon in the caucasian demographic. Asian brothels here are mostly illegal ones. Difficult to find, impossible to regulate.

It's also common in eastern and central Europe. Australia has not been affected by that yet, however, because of the physical distance.

I guess my point is that when we legalize the exploitation of the human body for profit, that's exactly what we'll get: the exploitation of human bodies. And in those human bodies will be human beings.

I didn't say I agree with prostitution. I think if we could erradicate it, the world would be a better place. But then, I would like to erradicate all illicit drugs, cigarettes and alcohol too......and loud music after 9pm.

Exactly, human bodies who choose to be exploited. BTW, that slavery story has nothing to do with "should prostitution be legalized?" it only has all to do with "Legalization of prostitution is done in the wrong way" wich is something completelly different as in the Netherlands where we don't have sexual slavery.. :sarcastic

It goes without saying that were it legalized a system of testing, monitoring and safety regulations would go with it.
I think legalization would both cut out much of the criminal element and reduce the spread of STDs.

Beside the desire to force your own ideas of propriety on others, what are the arguments against legalization?
