Let There Be No Compulsion in Religion

Peace

Quran & Sunnah
Peace be with you,

One of the fundamental truths established by the sacred texts is that no one can be compelled to accept Islam. It is the duty of Muslims to establish the proof of Islam to the people so that truth can be made clear from falsehood. After that, whoever wishes to accept Islam may do so and whoever wishes to continue upon unbelief may do so. No one should be threatened or harmed in any way if he does not wish to accept Islam.

Yes, you're absolutely right.

God wants us to obey Him based on our free will, and this is clearly stated in The Qur'an, like for example in verse (18:29)

"And say: "The truth is from your Lord; so whoever wills let him believe, and whoever wills let him disbelieve." (18:29)

This verse continues with a warning on the Day of Judgement for those who disbelieve, but in this world each is free to believe in what they find most convincing.

This verse quoted in the article is also very clear:

“If it had been your Lord’s will, all of the people on Earth would have believed. Would you then compel the people so to have them believe?” [10:99]

God created angels in such a way that they can only obey, they can't disobey. We humans on the other hand have a free will, but will be held accountable for our decisions in the Hereafter.

Salam and all the best.
