Just watching a show on cable about astronomy and exploration of space and the possibility scientists say of life out there. (It's so stupid...) So they say they see no signs of life out there, and then wonder if there is life like ours. Imagine that. Life like ours somewhere out there maybe. So it just hasn't "evolved" yet, I suppose. Or maybe these evolved beings look like? a horror being?

Being some of the universe is over 9 billion years older than earth... They could have a near 9 billion year head start.

Not sure why you think that extending our knowledge base is 'so stupid', but to each his own. Personally I find it all very fascinating.

We've been broadcasting radio and television for 100 years, plus or minus. So we've been sending signals into space at the speed of light (more or less) for 100 years. Those first signals have traveled through only a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of our galaxy. So even if we talk only about our galaxy out of billions of other galaxies, our signals have only scratched the surface of making their way to everywhere in our galaxy. Not only that, but when it comes to this scale of distance, the signals we broadcast are incredibly weak.

Put another way, there could well be other civilizations in our galaxy (the Milky Way), and their signals might not have reached us. We're all bound by the speed of light.

Put yet another way, it's like looking at one grain of sand in a huge, many-miles-long beach, and thinking that you've now explored the beach.

Evolved, right? Hey maybe they even look like humans? Or cockroaches? Which species, you figure it might be? OK, just thought I'd throw it out there -- sooo stupid...lol...Oh, and maybe there is a liveable place like the earth with ingredients for, um, animals? (again -- uh huh...) lol...OK, have a good time...

Like I ask, maybe they evolved? Maybe they look like, um...something...lol. Exploration is one thing. Wondering if there is "life" out there maybe like ours is beyond the beyond. Anyway, enjoy.

Maybe they visited the pentagon, you think? Or maybe in people's dreams? Maybe not. Maybe they're just dead people.

That there is intelligent life out there is almost a given. But space travel is hard, It is very hard. It is likely not practical between stars. Unless scientists discover a "cheat" it appears there is no practical way to travel from star to star.

I still wonder why you hate reality so much. If your God exists he made an immense universe. One that is many billions of light years across at the least. Why do all that if we are the only life? To think that we are the only intelligent life in the universe sounds like grade A arrogance to me. You are trying to tell your God how he had to make the universe.

So what do you think? Do you think your god made this unimaginably vast universe just for us? As was said in the movie "Contact", 'sure seems like a waste of space'.

Like I ask, maybe they evolved? Yes, presumably any other life found in the universe would have evolved.

Maybe they look like, um...something...lol. Yes, they will definitely look like 'something'. The question scientists are asking is, is it likely to be like life on Earth, that is carbon based, since there are conceivably other options.

Exploration is one thing. Wondering if there is "life" out there maybe like ours is beyond the beyond. Not sure what you mean by 'beyond the beyond', but making hypothesis based on verifiable knowledge is how science works. It's the method we use to explore the universe. People have been wondering if there is other life in the universe since before we verified that the universe contains billions upon billions of planets.

You're asking me what I think? I think God made the universe because He wanted to. I don't know what the future will bring in reference to life beyond the earth as we know it, but I do know that the heavens are awesome to look at, and some people do enjoy analyzing them. Frankly though, I think scientists and others should concentrate on fixing up the earth, but that won't happen for a while. :) which I believe will happen. As for instance, I was learning that there is a certain type of spider alive only very high up in the Himalayas. It is fantastic that they live there and nowhere else. Life here on earth can be fantastic.

So far scientists have found no evidence of life beyond the earth. And especially life that looks like humans. I mean maybe the atoms and molecules will configure together differently, if you believe it all happened by chance force. Or -- maybe these particles will not configure and "become alive" at all.

Let's be honest. There have been reports by some that spaceships landed on the earth, and "aliens" visited the Pentagon. Some people probably really believe that. :) Then again, I have seen some here claim dead people can visit humans in their dreams and that they're REAL. So if someone wants to reason that maybe life evolved somewhere else in the universe despite lack of evidence, might as well say that for other things, too.

Why do you think what scientists study is an either / or? Why can't they study both?

Yes, well maybe the planets and stars are alive also. :) (You think?)

I am saying that there's a lot of work to be done and improved on this earth, not to spend so much brain power asking and examining if there's life out there.

The key word here is one you just used... MAYBE

That's what science is, exploring the MAYBEs to see which ones are true :)
Again -- it's a waste of brainpower to spend good IQ's to figure if there's life out there.

No, creationists are the ones that misunderstand reality and say that it was all by chance. We know that chemicals work the same throughout the universe. You should be asking how we know this. As to other life looking like us? Probably not. That is science fiction. There may be evolved tetrapods on other planets, but four limbs will probably be the biggest similarity.
