Some practices and beliefs of Chinese folk religion include: Ancestor worship, Fortune telling, Feng shui watching, Making wishes to gods and ancestors, and Worshiping spirits or other local deities.

Local deities sounds interesting. I wonder what that’s like
Same. I wonder who they are.

I remember reading about Zigu, the toilet goddess once. A tragic figure, who, if my understanding is right, came to represent women in oppressive situations.

She is sometimes petitioned for fortune telling reasons on the last day of the Lunar New Year.

Got any stories of them?

Zao Jun the kitchen god or stove god reports once a year to pin yin the god of heaven on the activities of every household. Each household is punished or rewarded accordingly.

The story is kind of funny how this came into being. I guess a Chinese man left his wife for a younger woman and as punishment the heavens blinded him. Then one day he wandered into his old wife’s house begging for food. She cooked him a meal. He told her of what happened, and she gave his eyesight back. When he saw who she was he threw himself into the fireplace out of shame. The only thing the woman could salvage was his leg, and she made a shrine above the fireplace with it. To this day fire pokers by the fireplace are referred to as Zhang Langs leg.

Why was he so upset to see her?

Funny you just asked. I re-read what I wrote before I saw what you asked here and I put in the word shame when he saw her. So that’s the reason why he was upset. he felt ashamed of what he did to his wife. She cured him after he told her how sorry he was over what he did. He was unaware it was her because he was blind

I just read up on that toilet goddess. That was pretty interesting too. I guess people make a doll of her and pray to it once an year and they tell the doll that the married couple wasn’t around and that the goddess could come out and be safe. I guess Japan has their own version of a toilet god that protects them from falling in the toilet and drowning. There’s quite a few different versions of toilet gods from various cultures around the world.

That's pretty cool! I didn't know Japan had a bathroom deity, too.
