Let's Talk About Saturday

Most people that know me know I hate them.

I'm going to try to turn this around, and create a thread about the religious aspects of a Saturday.

Saturday is said to be Saturn ruled(hence, the name). Saturn energy is said to be quite harsh. Some of the deities associated with Saturn are Shani in Hinduism and Kronos in Greek mythology. Some worship Hanuman on Saturdays to gain the favor of Shani, as the two are said to be friends.

I've read its the best day to do home maintenance.

Do you know any lore surrounding Saturday? Does Saturday have any religious significance to you?

Kathryn

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
It doesn't have any religious significance to me that I can think of, but I do really like it and I don't really know why since I am now retired.

I put no religious significance on any day of the week, but having spent my adult life in retail, and being a huge, huge believer in one day, any one day, of the week should be totally free from the world to rest the spirit and the mind, if not the body as well, since retirement I use the last day, Saturday, as that day for me. I did get dressed today, but I will soon fix my plate of grapes, cheese cubes, dates, and crackers, and delve into my current murder mystery read.

The day of rest idea is intriguing to me. Not doable, but intriguing. :D

I do the resting thing on Sundays, which I love.

I went far too many years being attached to work 24/7/364 -- Christmas the only day to expect totally off, to not understand your position with your children. Plus, the first three years of my youngest son was all Momma, all the time, so I feel ya!

I don't attach any significance to human artificed calendars - made up assigning of numbers and patterns that don't correspond to any natural phenomena or the rhythms of the greater-than-human world. Hate is probably too strong of a word, but I very much dislike the human artificed calendar and if I had any real choice i the matter I would never use it at all.

When I was a newbie Pagan, I experimented with making my own calendars and timekeeping systems. It's an exercise I would recommend for anyone following a nature-centered religion. It will change how you think about time, how you relate to the environment around you, and make you actually pay attention to the greater-than-human world in ways you probably didn't before. You'll realize how bizarre and weird the human artificed calendar we use really is. And probably come to dislike it as the numbers and days stop meaning anything because they don't mean anything - there's no correspondence to anything in nature or going on out there in the world. Not the Solar Cycle, not the Lunar Cycle, not the Seasons, just... it is very detached from reality in a way that is hard to describe if you haven't done this sort of exercise.
