So here same sex marriage is legal in my state but abortion illegal so sinners go to the republican state next door.

Thoughts? Shouldn't the federal law figure this out or better for states to work out?

Hi Folks...

Thoughts..??.....First thought - IF its the UNITED states of America - then how come you all get to pick and choose different laws..?....lol..

I mean - you have a CENTRAL gment - and yet that gment has no power to enforce its own rule - it seems..??.. As if each state can say screw the gment we do what WE want anyway..?..

Some of the American methods - seem wholly bizarre and contradictoray....Like here then - a woman one side of an IMAGINERY BORDER has an abortion and is a CRIMINAL - yet if she LITERALLY walked a few yards away crossed that IMAGINERY line and did the same thing its perfectly legal..?...

Or as I see elsewhere similar "laws" - I could quite happy now smoke my joint of weed in one place no problems at all - yet again though cross another of those IMAGINERY borders and now Im a criminal..lol....It is RIDICULOUS and just shows the rest of us that NO it is not the UNITED states at all.... Oh - and I say IMAGINERY borders that way as youre SUPPOSED to be just ONE nation ;)

Oh its crazier than that some states don't allow tattoos, and just cross one of those imaginary lines to do it legal. Not to name any states. *coughs SC*

Hi Folks..

Idav; Yer sure does seem crazy...lol.... So what if - for example - I stand with one foot ether side of the imaginery line..?...lol......who gets to decide if Im legal or not..?..lol....What if I light my spliff on the legal side - but blow my smoke over onto the illegal side - have I broke law..?.....

Or what if I stand one side where tattoos are ILLEGAL - yet I now lean across and allow my arm to cross the state line and have THAT arm tattooed in the legal state..?..lol...am i a criminal..?..Is my arm a criminal..?....lol....Its like some of your laws are just thrown together ad hoc and must be made up spur of the moment without any thinking involved....lol...

My first thought was isn't Roe Vs Wade one of those laws that blankets the entire US, with different states using different levels of resistance?
Forgive my ignorance but I thought RvW superseded whatever the state wants? Granted I know some states are despicably underhanded in their denial of abortion.
Second thought was what the actual ****?!

You would think but your correct, it's restrictions states place on abortion which would force a person to go to a state with no such restrictions.

Where as with same sex marraige it doesn't help as much to get married in another state if going back home means it is no longer recognized.

I'd rather have a piecemeal state-based system where it is still possible to get treated like a proper human being than a federal law that overturns the progress made on women's rights.

I think it's absolutely bizarre how pretty fundamental rules vary from state to state and sometimes even county to county.

I like living under a stronger federal system, where the federal government is a check on the power of the provinces, which are a check on the power of local governments.

Of course, this system relies on the people at the top of the pyramid not being completely loopy.

Idav, are you saying that your state has a law contrary to the holding of Roe v. Wade?

And what does marriage of same-sex couples have to do with it?

That there are states that fight by putting restrictions, causing people to go to another state that doesn't have such restrictions.

Doesn't work for same sex marriage, states have to agree or there is conflict.

Are there no clinics or doctors in your state where a woman can elect to terminate her pregnancy in accordance with the Court's holding?

They've come and gone over the years, sometimes one inevitably has to travel if they are in a more rural area. Its actually switched around depending the year your talking about with the state we are closest to, as recent as three years.
