when jesus spoke of humans as being light, was he speaking of a light from an outward source shining inward, or an inward light shining outwards?

enlightenment? or absorption?

It seem truth and light are the same. So, humans can shine truth and I believe the truth can come from God.

For everyone practicing wickedness hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, that his works may not be exposed. But the one doing the truth comes to the Light, that his works may be revealed, that they exist, having been worked in God.

I was taught to see the light. An actual light that surrounds us. I was also told that the ability to see the light was transferred from Apostle to disciple.

As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

The sight given to them was to see the light of God, not earthly sight. If you can't actually see this light, then you are spirituality blind.

What is this light? It is a pure intense light which can be seen even in total darkness. It envelopes everything and is very peaceful to focus on.
It is easy to assume what is meant by the word "light" so reading passages for the Bible isn't necessarily helpful. You can identify the light as this or that and assume you understand. Perhaps it is beneficial to realize you can't figure it out with your head, you have to be shown. Good luck with that.

Why believe me? No reason, but maybe someone will come along to show you the light. Someday, some life time and then you'll understand.

The spiritual works on the principle of reflection in a mirror.
You seek God's glory, not your own, so it doesn't matter if the light springs from you or comes from outside... that determines your mind.

You are light, and (he who tells) "I am" is in darkness.
I glorify you, not myself!

I don't know what I am and what I am, how do I determine for myself when I don't "exist", tell me what I am.
What you will see in me is what is in you!

That's how it works, reflection in a mirror.
"I'm in you!"

If you say that you are light (absorb or radiate), then you are not from me!

I'm speaking metaphorically, I think you get the point.

Light and dark are metaphors that are commonly used by religions. Dark symbolizes ignorance and error. Light is the truth that gives one greater understanding, usually with the idea that this new understanding will bring one good things such as well being, salvation from hell, etc.
