Summary: Since before 9/11, but accelerating rapidly since then, our government has been gutting the Bill of Rights. I largely agree with this article. My main quibble is that I don’t really believe in a conspiracy like “the deep state”. Instead I believe that like minded and similarly lawyered oligarchs have - working individually - driven this gutting of our civil liberties:

I looked up the guy. I’ll give him props to adhering to his principles without hypocrisy. Which I have observed with some alleged “free speech absolutists.”

The Aristocrats, bankers and corporatists have been trying to claw their way back to power ever since the crash of '29 and FDR's "socialist" New Deal."

9/11 was a Klein moment, a shock enabling a slew of legislation to be enacted with little public awareness or discussion: The Homeland Security Department, The Patriot act, The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance act, &al. Big Brother had triumphed.

We do have a 'deep state', but it's not the deep state of Republican propaganda, it's more a deep, police-surveillance state.

First quote in it says a lot. Whether you call it "Deep State" or "like minded and similarly lawyered oligarchs" is just semantics IMO
Most important is to recognize what "They" do, sad thing is, that they have the power, and will never give up. So "police state" probably follows
