Luther

Has anyone seen the movie Luther? I watched it last night, and I have to say, if there is any truth in it, that man has some big b*lls to have stood up to the Catholic Church like that!!

I haven't seen the film, but I was taught that Luther posted some points for debate on the church door, as was the custom, without the faintest inkling of the firestorm they would unleash.

I was taught the same thing, Seyorni. All (or most) professors in his time would get involved in debates--it was a major form of entertainment during that time. Luther was just offering some theses that he'd be willing to debate; he only posted it on the church door because that was essentially the town bulliton board. The situation probably wouldn't have exploded the way it did, except some people took the theses, printed them up, and distributed them all over Germany.

Even some of the greatest Biblical characters had their faults. I have seen some of the movie. Luther did not mean to start a Reformation, but when he was excommunicated and returned to Germany, many people had already put his teachings into practice. That Tetzel guy was intense. But its a very interesting time period there!

I would correct you here... ALL of the men and women in the Bible had TERRIBLE faults. God only works through faulty people to demonstrate his true power.
