It is an overly complicated system that has been phased out in most states as I understand, but as you remember, I suspect, you knew immediately that it was not rendering your vote per your request before you printed it to put in the tabulator, unless you were in one of two red states that didn't print the ballot before tabulating it. anyhow, the fill in the circles with a pen is the modern standard for just this reason. NY's new handicap system uses a touch screen with multiple input sources including mouse etc, but then prints the ballot like this for normal tabulation. I will see it in action soon maybe. Everybody I have worked with that had problems filling in the ballots so far has used an assistant.
