Male or Female Friends?

Which do you prefer if you have a preference? Why? What gender are you?

I seek friendship with anyone, but nowadays I have a solid core of friends who are all male. I like it that way, women never share my sense of humour and fun. I can't understand why they don't want to get hammered on whiskey, make a noise on guitar, tell sick jokes, scale buildings, throw themselves over hedgerows, joke at the expense of complete strangers etc. Mystery.

I like a balance of male and female friends. At times, I've felt that I had too many of one or the other to have a balance, and I have been unhappy with that. Of my two closest friends, one is male and the other is female.

I have only two real female friends now. Both are priceless though. Unfortunately one is in Portugal, while the other isn't part of 'the group' of good friends I have who all know each other.

Male. They don't worry so much about stupid stuff, like how people look, or what they're wearing. They also share the same type of humour as I do. I can't make my style of jokes around women without getting "reprimanded." Guys just tend to be more easy going.

I prefer female friends. I find it difficult to attain a deep connection with guys through activities such as continuous drinking etc and much easier with girls through talking, hugging etc.

Male and female tend to have some ways in which they differ in how they view the world. I like to get both perspectives when I'm seeking advice or just curious about something. I think it helps to see a more complete truth.

BTW, my closest female friend is one of the few women I've ever known who never tries to change males into anything they aren't, never tries to "improve" them, just takes them as they are. I've never been reprimanded by her for anything I've said or done.

Yes I can't stand it when people try and change me and I have to admit that I have only found that women try and do this with me. Not that they mean to but it can hurt deeply that they cannot accept me as I am and want me to be something I am not.

It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm watching/playing sports or doing something geeky like wrapping someone's house in toilet paper, then I usually prefer to be with the guys. If I want someone to really hang out with, talk to and bond with, then I prefer women. Sex... I prefer women. If I'm going to a party where I don't know many other people, I prefer to go with guys. Road trip? Definitely with guys. The Beach, the pool, skinny dipping in a lake, I prefer women. Sailing, hiking, camping or hanging around outdoors... I prefer men, maybe one or two women incase conversations get boring.

So it all depends on what I'm doing.

I have many female friends. But out of the people i deem best friend worthy, one is a guy and one is a girl. I need the change in perspective. Mostly to see all sides of me through others eyes. Plus, we have lots of fun goofing off and acting stupid... *smiles*

i am male, and i have a fair few male friends - but they can be really boyish, so i think i would die without my female friends :)

guy's don't talk about anything unless they have had several pints of lager, which results in the talking being very crude

this is of course, guys in general, as i am sure there are many guys who are not like this (me included)

I have a few more female friends than male friends, but not many. I have a preference for people that are nice to talk with and fun to be around, gender doesn't matter. :)

My closest of friends are women. My "hanging buddies" are mostly men. I find more men want to talk with me about their relationships than anything. Like I'm some kind of counselor or something.

You're obviously getting about with the wrong kind of girl, Jimmy.

I dunno...I can kinda find it hard to relate to women. I generally prefer men as a rule. Could have something to do with the fact I spent a LOT of time with my cousins when I was younger, and at that point I was was the only girl out of the lot.
I also have a tendency to be very handy - I work in a largely male dominated industry - and I find women who play on the fact that they 'can't' do something and have to get a 'big ,strong man' to do it for them so annoying that I just want to ***** slap them.

SO understand that one! I have always been mechanically inclined, the only girl in my neighborhood growing up, took the auto and electronics courses in high school, and was in a male dominated field in the Navy to the point I was often the only woman around. Irks the bejeezes out of me that some women can be so helpless as to not know how to change a tire or other such simple things! They play on that very well. But in the end, those women can't hold a conversation with a man about the man's interests. Sure they may be a nice thing to play with for a time and may even make the man feel important for a while, but even men get bored of constantly having to "take care" of the "little woman" all the time.

Some of them take it to extremes though...my mother for instance. Perfectly capable of changing a car tyre herself, but will stand by the side of the road looking forlorn until some sap pulls over and does it for her. Why?!
It baffles me...I'd be positive I was adopted if my grandfather hadn't been carrying a shotgun when he gave my mother away at my parents wedding.

:biglaugh:

You know, that reminds me of something. When I was 8 months pregnant with my first child I had a blowout and was on the side of the road changing the tire myself, I had all but 2 lugnuts on the spare when a guy pulled over and rushed over to me and said "oh no sweetheart, you sit down and rest, I'll get that for you!" :biglaugh: Nice sentiment, but a little late.:p

Other then my wife, neither, that is as far as close friends. I'd rather have a dog or cat. They are more honest, not 2 faced and can be trusted, where as most people cannot. A dog knows it's a dog, a cat knows it's a cat, but most people think that they are something they are not.

I disagree. My cat believes herself to be human.

I tend to flip between two different moods at random, so I will often switch between hanging with the guys or the gals. It seems that only men truly appreciate the awesomeness of running full-speed into eachother, shoulder against shoulder. On the other hand, I have yet to meet a guy under 40 that can actually appreciate classical music. Hell, even fusion jazz would be great. Women also seem to put up with some of my eccentric behaviors a bit better.
