I think it's not being actively "swept under the rug"
so much as being ignored because it's less compelling
than racially charged events, ie, cops shooting blacks.

To add to that. There are on average every year around 4 to 6 racially motivated murders of African Americans and over 300 cases of agravated assault classified as hate crimes. Most of them don't make national coverage unless they are particularly gastly or come at a time where racism is at the fore of political and societal debates.

I don't think it's fair to compare cases of police officers killing citizens to citizens killing other citizens. While both are certainly terrible events, one has a far more important political ramification since it involves State violence and debate over how those incidents should be treated.

As far reportingg of those crimes though, I think it's a bit of a catch 22 case. If media report on it abundantly and a stand, there is a risk it could radicalise a portion of their viewers and lead to violence. It's also possible that if the media don't report on it or do so in a laconic manner that it will radicalise members of the effected communities, activists in the domain who might be interested in forming a vanguardist-like movement or sweep under the rug an actual important social issue. It's a hard balance and since there isn't one media, but hundreds of actors of more or less large size, it's impossible to all coordonate their efforts in the genre. Depending on an individual's media diet, it's possible they could get radicalised in a variety of ways.

Jesus himself said concerning one of the signs of the last days:

So really the increasing of lawlessness is causing the coldness in human society.
