So, some snotty-nosed punk kid throws a smoke bomb into a crowded theater. And a few moments later someone else sees the smoke and shouts "FIRE!". At which point chaos and mayhem ensue, as hundreds of frightened movie-goers try to escape the theater at once.

Later, when the snotty-nosed kid is found, and asked why he did it, he says he did it so that everyone would see how stupid and dangerous it is to throw smoke bombs into crowded theaters. But of course this is just a lie, and no one believes it because the kid could have achieved that goal without risking everyone else's health and welfare by simply standing up and saying that it would be stupid and dangerous to throw a smoke bomb into that theater full of people. And this had never even occurred to the kid, of course, because he and everyone else already knows how stupid and dangerous it would be to throw smoke bombs into crowded theaters. They would have just told him to sit down and shut so they could watch the movie.

This scenario is analogous, I believe, to posting this thread.

The news media publish the story, setting the tone. With that
story presented, it's their context when they go to the related
videos. The videos of whites being assaulted or shot are far
less visible in national news. They'd have no reason to search
for them.
Justine Damon, the Australian woman who was murdered by
a black cop in Minneapolis is an interesting case. At a protest
in Australia for George Floyd, I recall an interviewer asking
people there if they'd heard of her death. Very few knew of
the fellow Aussie who was shot here. But they knew all about
Floyd.

I saw that interview in Australia. One of them even said that her white life didn't matter. Disgusting.

I have had tenants who tell the judge that their place is uninhabitable.
The judge asks them for their current address.
The tenant gives the address for the "uninhabitable" home.
The judge then asks how are they living there if it is uninhabitable.

To be fair, I've lived in broken down slums before. It's either that or truly be on the street with nothing.

I can beat that.
I once sued to get a money judgment against a group of tenants
who were far behind in rent. The tenant's spokesman argued
that they shouldn't have to pay because I owed them a duty to
have evicted them sooner. (Apparently they thought that once
evicted, the rent obligation stopped.) Upon questioning by the
rather bemused judge, he went on to praise me as a landlord.

Btw, I won my judgment, but they were uncollectible (being
Russians).

I'm not saying that her death was never covered.
But white deaths receive less coverage.

Well...not here, but ok.
I'm still less concerned my media coverage and far more concerned about justice/legal outcomes.

Police reform is going to be a long & messy process
with some failed attempts. I just hope that it happens.

I completely agree. Lots of reasons for concern.

Isn't it odd though that interviewed Aussies protesting
one dead black guy from Minneapolis didn't know or
care about a dead Aussie shot in the same town?
I suspect that he interviewed more protesters than
are shown in the video, but still, those exist.

Like I said, it's not the least bit surprising that we have ill-informed buttheads down here that rely on Twitter feeds for their news.

My nationality is the same as theirs, but we run the full gamut here.
Plenty of 'traditional' Aussies probably don't care about ANY deaths in America, since apathy is almost a national sport.
But some of these folks who want to rebel aren't interested in investing time, effort and consideration in understanding issues.
They just want to make themselves feel better by 'doing' something.

I personally find such lack of personal insight and accountability an indictment on their actual commitment, but I'm sure they feel momentarily better for having mindlessly seperated themselves from 'the herd'.

Unfortunately we sometimes seem to watch America and think 'Oh look, let's be like them!'

I think that makes us less real, but if you mean flawed, I agree.

Sidenote : Like us, America is diverse. I'm not trying to denigrate America or Americans. But you can likely imagine the sort of Americans who get prime airplay here. They're not the subtle, nuanced and considered ones, most often.

FWIW, I never got the impression that you dissed Ameristan.

Good. One of my best mates is American, so I feel compelled to bag Americans constantly, but only when he can hear me. Not much fun in it otherwise.

PS. He's a Lakers supporter, so he's lucky I even talk to him to be honest.
