Om Nandaye namaha is "I prostrate to Nandi". Nandaye is the dative case of Nandi (to/for). All I know is that if a prayer is said to Nandi it goes to Lord Shiva faster, so I read.

Did any of you ever had any experience meditating with the mantras of the Shiva sahasranam, the 1000 names of Shiva?

Shiva Sahasra Namam - Thousand Names of Lord Shiva from Mahabharata

Should I assume that e.g. if you meditate with "Om Nandaye namaha" ("who is the treasure house of knowledge") you'd become knowledgeable? Thank you...

The names of God aren't usually used in meditation, but in puja. Listening to a well trained Sivacharya priest can put you into an inner blissful state. Certainly they aren't intended as meditation mantras, but one can 'meditate' on anything,I guess.

I agree and would like to add that just listening to the Sri Vishnu Sahasranama confers blessings. I would imagine the same is true for the Sri Shiva Sahasranama. I'm sure there are many on Youtube. They can be downloaded and converted to mp3 & burned to cd. I do it all the time.

Good way to learn to chant it yourself.

Yes, the version I have is slower. The whole thing is about 30+ minutes. I couldn't believe it when I heard a large group of children recite it at temple, from memory in complete unison, without missing a beat.
