I still say,

"Why not both?"

Automate, and increase minimum wage for those who want to work, both. Then introduce Universal Basic Income, and free healthcare, and make Elon pay through the nose in taxes, etc.
More & more people will cost more than they're
worth, thereby becoming unemployable. They'll
go on the dole.

Let them make their money, or stay home and collect less money. Then have a cap on how much money a person can have. Reduce the power of the upper class that way & try to increase power elsewhere.

Don't stop, you are on a roll. Add free foot massages, unicorn rides and rainbow stew.

McDonald's opens largely automated location outside Fort Worth Texas. Does this foretell the loss of millions of jobs in other like industries?

McDonald's unveils first automated location, social media worried it will cut 'millions' of jobs

Probably at some point. Why would they spend money on human labor when they can have it done by machine? I still think they're pushing it a bit, at least in overestimating the capabilities of AI, as I find out any time I have to call some company with automated voice system. But I expect it will get better in time.

Who knows? This could be the beginning of the end, as Skynet starts first by taking over McDonald's. When it starts building an army of Terminators, they'll all look like Ronald McDonald.

Automation will keep spreading. Why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year on a lawyer when a chat AI can do it all for you. I'm sure the eloi will not care what happens to the morlocks.

I've predicted this for some time now. And it will not only be in low education, low skill jobs. AI will make even jobs obsolete that required a degree or years of experience until now.
And unlike the last industrial revolutions, there are no higher qualified jobs people can migrate to. The only solution is an UBI of some sort, financed by the work of the machines.

Question Everything
Wasn't it Star Trek who envisioned a society without money, Imagine being able to travel, read, ride bikes, talk, anything you wanted.

Carpe Diem, I'm a fan of embracing technology, believe it can lead to a higher quality of life for all.

Better than raising the min wage would
be minimum government provided income
for all (IMO).
Something has to bottom out.

It's people that go to restaurants and stores and the like and spend their paycheck that keeps those businesses in the black.

Ai dosent have those needs. They have no paychecks. Just payments for purchase and maintenance.

And dependent on their benefactor.

Like selling ones soul to the devil.
Would you let unproductive citizens
depend upon charity...or just starve?
A minimum basic income would let them
survive. And the lack of a min wage would
allow them to find work to supplement
gubmint income.
This appears to be the best of bad
solutions available to us.
