Meaning of life

הרב יונה בן זכריה
How does a person have meaning to their life. What's the purpose to life
I imagine you would not have asked these questions without first giving these matters careful consideration and deep comtemplation. I am sure that after all your musing regarding these matters you have have formulated your own thoughts, arrived at your conclusions.

Why not share those?

Meaningfulness is found and woven, in the experiences we have and the stories we tell. Informing life's meaningfulness is one of the primary functions of religions. If one's religion isn't doing that for a person, I take it as a sign they is practicing the wrong religion for them.

As a Hinduish type, I believe the purpose and meaning of life is to experience Self-Realization/Brahman-Realization/God-Realization. It is all One but we experience it as separate (Illusion=Maya in Hinduism). The joy and purpose is the thrill of going from the limited to the infinite by dropping the illusion of the ego.

I always wondered why anyone feels there Has to be a purpose. Its nice to have one, but not necessary.

For me, personally:

My purpose comes from my faith and worldviews.

I am called to sacrifice. I fast every full moon for that purpose. I am called to do this to bring out my true nature or Buddha nature.

I find my Buddha nature is in correlation with nature. My purpose is to live according to nature and in a holistic lifestyle minus anything that would be in my path to stay enlightened.

My purpose is to live my Buddha nature by dying to Self to live, interaction with nature, and prayer to the Gohonzon which Is my life.

This helps me get rid of negativity and road blocks. It helps me be intuned with how our body and mind is naturally suppozed to live. It helps me he at peace and looking at myself and true nature as a Boddhistava of the Earth.

My purpose comes from my worldviews.

I find communing with my ancestors and family give me purpose that I have blood relations ans suppoet. I am an animist and believe spirits are in all beings and things. Knowing how to interact with people and things and for me, places, I know myself more. I am a reflection of the spirits. I am a pantheist. I find the spirit in all living.

To wrap it up: I am a holistic dreamer.

Whsg is Your purpose in life?

I mostly agree with you.Another way to express it is to acquire attributes of G-d to obtain flourishment of our faculties with a result to get nearness to G-d to fulfil our purpose of life.

Seems to me that the journey must be enjoyed. It is best to experience life as one who is, enlightened in Christ or Self realized or Brahman realized or God realized. Certainly when one operates from these levels of awareness one will create and 'metabolize' mostly blissful and sinless experiences which are very fulfilling.

However as one seeks to become enlightened in Christ/Self-Realized/Brahman-Realized/God-Realized one should not forget to enjoy the journey. Even though (without these) one will be operating from a less informed and less capable level of awareness, the journey must not even be ignored. However by being enlightened in Christ/Self-Realized/Brahman-Realized/God-Realized one can enter life and experience life with more wisdom and more skill.

I think folks are free to create their own meaning for life. I guess some folks are looking for others to provide a meaning for life to them. There's various religious that can provide that. Otherwise you can very arbitrarily create your own.

Money, power, love, happiness. Personally I chose the purpose of life as being the pursuit of happiness. Generally I find the fulfillment of that in family, friends and helping others.

You mean like discovery of the "truth"?

Good luck with that. I've been looking for 56 years. I gotten comfortable with there being no absolute truth. I see freedom in this. It allows you to make life whatever you want it to be. You're the author of your life, how creative can you be?

How does a person have meaning to their life. What's the purpose to life

The basis of having meaning to life is to be doing something that is meaningful to one. The more profoundly meaningful one's activities are to one, the more meaningful one's life becomes and stays that way.

Therefore it is not simply enough to arbitrarily chose to do just any thing. Each person must seek out his most profoundly meaningful activity. These are directly linked to our most profound ideas, beliefs interests, needs, desires and aspiration.

Our most profound ideas, beliefs interests, needs, desires and aspiration are the fabric of our own individual heart or spirit. For example one might firmly believe in his heart or spirit that finding and marrying the right mate is a number one goal for him. If he does then he will find that his life has serious meaning and purpose.

However these ideas, beliefs interests, needs, desires and aspiration which of our heart or spirit are not discerned or found though thinking and intellectualizing (i.e. left brain hemisphere functioning). These are discerned and known through spiritual/intuitive discernment (i.e. right brain hemisphere functioning). That is, this is found by search one's heart or spirit. This is about God's kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of heaven is within. This is about search one's own heart or spirit.

Although these ideas, beliefs interests, needs, desires and aspiration are the fabric of our individual spirits, they are all related to things in the physical world. We are here on earth, to materially express and fulfill these.

Indeed therefore, the expression and materialization of these, on earth, will give us the most meaning to our life and we will also be simultaneously fulfilling our divine purpose in life. In fact our life will be unbounded, blissful and heavenly even on earth.

You might not know this but the essential basis of Christianity (and other Spiritual traditions) is to put you into a life style which is centered on you doing exactly what is most profoundly meaningful to you, 24/7. This does not mean that you have to teach, preach or serve the scriptures. Fact is your God endorsed and most profound activities can be totally unrelated to any formal religious tradition. It can simply be working in marketing etc..

However, in spite of this fact, the purpose of life on earth for each person is the same as God's purpose for each person on earth. Even if that is for one to work in a marketing endeavor.

The God given purpose in life on earth for each person is to physically materialize and physically express, on earth, the ideas, beliefs, interests, needs, desires and aspiration which are the fabric of his or her own heart or spirit. The aim of all spiritual tradition is to enable this, with absolute freedom, liberty and justification and simultaneously in harmony with the will of God. This is described as bringing God's kingdom of heaven to earth.

This is also described as: when thy kingdom come, thy will will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. By living in this manner we do the will of God and cause God's kingdom of heaven to come to earth.

The best approach through which humans can have this absolutely heavenly life, on earth and also bring God's kingdom of heaven to earth, was committed onto Paul. This was committed onto Paul by the Spirit, 'not seen' and eternal, Son of God. Lord Jesus. This has nothing to do with the commission which was committed onto Peter by the physical, 'seen' and temporal, son of man, Lord Jesus.

I would be delighted to share the full details of this claim/technique, as absolutely supported literally by revelations in the KJV N.T. It is known only to the chosen few. This is known only to one with a precisely relevant gift of the Spirit. It is not know in traditional Christianity. However it is absolutely Christian. It was also enunciated in the Bhagwat Gita. Are you interested?

We can go through this process using a series of flowing questions and answers. You ask and I will answer. All my replies will be supported literally and completely by quoted revelations from the KJV N.T.

Then not only would we benefit, many others can and will benefit. Are you interested?

What is your first question to arise from the above post?

The meaning of life? Enjoying the trip as long as it lasts.

But if you look for more objective or universal meanings, I do not think there is any. With the possible exception of spreading our genes, which is ultimately pointless anyway.

you have the possibility of becoming part of God's family. the Bible says that to those who believe He gives the power to become the sons of God. that is a pretty awesome potential

I've sort of reached the conclusion that the question is loaded to be unanswerable. if you try to find a 'higher' meaning, you're necessarily going to dismiss the little things that give us pleasure, satisfaction and fulfillment. the search for meaning presumes life is meaningless, which is itself based on self-denial of our own animal impulse to live and thrive.

It seems to me to answer that question accurately, we need direction from the One who created us. His will for the first human couple was to "Be fruitful and become many, fill the earth and subdue it, and have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and every living creature that is moving on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28) I believe God has not changed his purpose. He will yet have the earth made into a paradise home for those who obey him. As for today, God's "will is that all sorts of people should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth." (1 Timothy 2:4) That is the purpose of life, to honor and worship the one true God with accurate knowledge of the truth about him.
