Men with Tattoos

I've never had much of a like of tattoos. I'm too much of an artist to want to permanently affix something to my body like a canvass. I love henna and body paint, but tattoos are a major "no thanks" for me. This dislike doesn't usually extend to other people. They can do what they want.

But then I saw something today.

There's this guy who moved into my apartment complex. He likes pampering his car, and today he was out there doing it with his shirt off. Now, this guy is pretty hot. Although he's not quite the picturesque male supermodel, he is more than enough to qualify as sexy eye candy. Yet as I looked at him, the gorgeously sculpted muscles were interrupted by irritating doodles. I kept trying to see the beauty of the form, and each time I was thwarted by stupid tattoos spaced across his torso in a haphazard fashion. Perhaps it is the haphazardness of it that ruined it for me, but what was once sexy eye candy became "ew." I asked myself "why would you do that!? Why would you ruin something so sexy and beautiful?! WHY!?"

So, fellow lovers of the sexy male form, do tattoos ruin it for you too?

(Yes, I know men do not exist to be my eye candy, but with so much sex-objectification of women going on, it seems fair to me to make this thread )

I much prefer the human body without tattoos. Of course, it is definitely a person's right to have them if they wish. But, if talking about what I find attractive, I prefer skin without pictures, graphics or writing.

My husband has one. He is talking about wanting more. I'd rather not, but I won't try to stop him if that's what he wants. It's his body.

As an aesthetic, rather than sexual, appreciator of the male form - I feel the same way about them as I do about tattoos on women.

95%+ of them detract from the beauty of the form. Some of them can accentuate it, but the ones that do it for me are usually big, covering multiple areas of the body, with organic or tribal patterns. Words are a no-no, and images almost always so with some exceptions.

It depends on the tats in question. Some are very nice as art, but I'd rather see art in a museum and not on a person's body.
And it depends on the body that tats are on. In general though, the more there are on one person, the less likely I will like it. That said, with enough "hotness" I can tolerate a lot of "stuff".

My sweetie doesn't have a single tattoo on his body and I think he's perfect as is. But, if he opted for tats, I'd find them hot as hell, as his taste in art rocks my world. I'm particularly fond of dragons, as is he.

The "right" tats can be hot and accentuate lovely body features. But then, I'm a cosmetologist my nature. Accentuating natural beauty with color and lines is appealing to me.

There are certain things that wouldn't float by boat. I'm not into the biker-culture, naked chick, evil looking stuff. I enjoy bold, yet simplistic designs. And I sport these types of tattoos myself.

It depends on a multitude of factors including personal motive and symbolism, aesthetic preference, and on occasion sheer overkill factor. Same goes for women. I'd go on, but I'm trying to wrap up computer time. Will be back later.

I love the way tattooed women look. I like them more than non-tattoed women. I don't know why. I know I'm not the only one.

I have tattoos and while I can't say that they objectively make a person better looking, I feel more at home in my own skin with them.

Personally, tattoos don't ruin a hot man for me. I mean, as long as he isn't completely shirted and tacky looking really. I see nothing wrong with tattoos. I like them. Then again, I have tattoos, and most men I've been with have had tattoos as well. In some cases, they can even be really hot.

Interesting thread. I doubt I will ever get any tattoos myself.

Scars or brands maybe.

But I have got in on with hot guys bearing really idiotic hipster tattoos. And their personalities won me over... lol. And actually there is a certain appeal to the thug tattoo style, just in that it is so thoughtless. Actually I could spin a postmodern interpretation involving class struggle 'teaching' people the idea that their body is worthless.. or indeed only valued in terms of its labor. The act of tattooing is a scream of brand identification in an attempt at identity, but to the uninitiated observer it does exactly the opposite.. and turns what 'should' be a pristine temple of the divine form born by ancestral genetics etc into something perceived as garbage. Maybe I have been watching Lockup:Raw a little too obsessively...

Tattoos to me mean the tattooed had nothing better to spend money on. Tattoes are not sexual in any way. They are commercial imo. My husband and I have no tattoos. FYI it's Saturday night.

For me it would be too varied to make a blanket judgement statement on it when it comes to my tastes, because I know I will not like all tattoos and cannot even say if I generaly like them or not. I think it depends on the woman and the tats (and as always, location location location )

I like some types of tattoos on men. They can be cool on a case by case basis.

If tattoos lasted for five or even ten years and then went away, I'd definitely have some tattoos on me.

Tattoos only are deal breakers if they are offensive and/or obnoxious. Otherwise, I don't really care about them.

I have one tattoo. I've thought about another, though it's still up in the air.

For me, the one I have (and the one I have in mind for future) isn't about decoration or being "sexy"; it's more of a reminder to my future self about things that I think are important now... if that makes any sense.

I hope it's not a turn-off for a partner... though I suppose if anyone did have a problem with it, I'm sure they'd have problems with other ways I express myself, so maybe it's a good litmus test for the potential of a relationship.
