Interesting question. It needs more definition, but I'll have a go.
Love has many meanings. I'll ignore most of them, including "I love chocolate cake".
I would say love is an outgoing concern for the well being of another sentient creature. It can include mercy if forgiveness is involved. It can involve sacrifice if I give up something to benefit another. But those are manifestations of love. Love itself is a mental state.
is love a merciful thing or a sacrifice?
Yes.is love a merciful thing or a sacrifice?
actually it is written what is required. sacrifice isn't it.is love a merciful thing or a sacrifice?
syo I say it is Both.... God is Love!
And God gave himself to us as a Sacrifice!
syo In the Old Testament Man sacrificed animals to God, in the New Testament God gave the ultimate sacrifice "Himself" out of Perfect Love!!
Scriptures say.. "God is Love!"
God gave us his only begotten son... A gift of perfect love!
Jesus gave us himself as... A gift in perfect sacrifice!
Is love a merciful thing or a sacrifice?
Ephesians 2:4
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Romans 3:25
God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
Ephesians 5:2
and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
1 Corinthians 5:7
Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
ALL Passover Sacrificed LAMBS must be eaten!

its a little more basic. it's about giving up something that one wants to meet a need that another has. otherwise it's gluttony.
Gluttony means over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or wealth items, particularly as status symbols.
that isn't a problem. the idea is based on need vs want. a need is something necessary for life to flourish. a want isn't.I don't see that at all. I can love someone who has no current needs and I don't have to give them anything.
again its about a need being met whether its for self or another. has nothing to do with excess or want.I can love someone who needs something that costs every little (to me) and I don't have to give up anything significant to help them.
gluttony is the idea of more than what one needs. it's goes to excess and hoardingAnd how gluttony comes into it I don't understand at all. That suggests that if I don't give away my stuff I'm a glutton. What if I have just enough for my own needs?
