This is something I've thought and about and forgive me if I don't fully understand it. But as far as I know Christians believe Jesus IS the Messiah that was foretold in the prophecy But Jesus is also God or an aspect of God. The Jews believed that the Messiah would come to them but to Christians, the Messiah already showed up and will return. And the God from the New Testament is the same as the one from the Old Testament. So that means God is the Messiah?
If Jesus is God AND the messiah and is supposed to be the same God from the OT, than they didn't really have to wait for a savior, the savior was already there when he first talked to Adam and Eve and the other prophets. Christians say Jesus is the Messiah they were waiting for, but really, the messiah was already there to begin with, right? And besides I already thought God was kind of the savior anyway, since he helped liberate the Jews from Egypt.
The Greek word that gets translated into English as Christ and the Hebrew word that gets translated into English as Messiah both mean 'anointed' or 'anointed one'.
There are a whole bunch of OT prophecies about an 'anointed one' that God was going to send that would do a whole bunch of specific, significant things.
Followers of Judaism (who have a DIR where you can read all about what they think that the Messiah [anointed one] will do that Jesus did not) are waiting for someone to come along and fulfill all of the promises.
[Technically, it may be more accurate to say that they believe that it will happen, but are not particularly waiting for it any more than most Christians are waiting for Armageddon ... neither event is the center of daily life.]
Christians believe that God split the job of the 'anointed one' [Christ] in half ... Jesus came as a suffering servant to fulfill some of the prophecies and will return as a conquering king to fulfill the rest.
Whether Jesus is the Messiah/Christ/'anointed one' or not, whether Jesus is God or not, the Messiah/Christ/'anointed one' is still the subject of specific prophetic works that must be fulfilled.
In the OT, God has not done what his prophets said the 'anointed one' would do ... so those of Jewish faith must still wait.
Christians believe that Jesus is the promised 'anointed one' and is half finished fulfilling prophecy.
The whole Messiah is Jesus, Jesus is God, therefore, the OT God is Messiah argument is just semantics.
Followers of Judaism would say no (Messiah will be a man, prophecy not fulfilled).
Non-trinitarians would say no (Jesus is not God).
Trinitarians might say yes or no (Jesus is the God of the OT, but the anointed must still be a man ... a decedent of King David to be exact ... was the God of the OT descended from David?)
The paradox at the core of your post is purely a Jesus is God paradox ... How can the Son of David be the creator of Adam?
