Excuse you, but the American citizen is the government. I guess you're fine with a distant dictatorship but that's not how America works. We pay the taxes that run these schools and pay the teachers. We have a right to know what they're teaching and push back when they're teaching minors inappropriate things on our dime, especially when it's nothing more than thinly veiled political activism. Children do not belong to the government. They belong to their families.

Well, yes, you hire the teachers and other education experts to give the best education to your kids they can with their budget and their expertise. And then you mistrust their expertise and try to micromanage them.
At least that is what I see is happening here.
Of course there has to be oversight and someone has to make a curriculum and there are only so many hours in a school week so one has to decide what to include and what not - based on demand and expertise.
I see the political activism but I see it with those who are questioning the expertly crafted curriculum.

It was entertaining to watch my local anti-vax parents freak right out when the Health Unit's COVID vaccination bus stopped at the local high school and vaccinated any kid who wanted it, no parental permission required.

(In Canada, kids can consent to medical care as soon as they can understand what they're consenting to and its risks, so no parental permission is needed to vaccinate a 14-year-old)

It was a debate few weeks ago about sex ed in elementary school. He essentially suggested that it's better for a child to be abused than to learn things that could prevent it. All because primitive superstitions taught us to fear and loathe the human body.
