Yes it is a privilege especially if you want benefits from the state. It no different than driving. You have no right to drive. It's a privilege afforded to one man one woman. Whitney live and what genitalia they are attracted to have never been a determining factor in who got married. You realize when the rooster crows at sunrise the rooster isnt making the sun rise. Same. My dad and this family are from New Orleans. I understand both sides of the argument but the truth is, Southerners are a proud people and to many of them, the Confederate flag and such just represents Southern pride (like with the band Lynyrd Skynyrd). At that point, I don't see the point of arguing. (I don't understand the people who aren't Southern at all displaying it, like people here in Ohio. That's just weird.)

Well, I am in Ohio now but am originally from the south and New Orleans. So maybe some others are too.

And yes, it was necessary to give them that right because this country is based upon equal rights for all. They are not getting a special right. They are merely getting the same right that you have.
