Modern day prophets & revealed scripture

So what makes a person a prophet in this day and age? How can one be sure a prophet is the real thing? And what makes one accept revealed scripture? Can one really accept such things if one believes in the bible?

If one can find within the Bible verses that indicate the new revelation is foretold, well sure!

I think to be a prophet requires interaction with a deity and some kind of divinity, I have not seen any rational "prophets" most of them who claim they are simply need medication.

A true prophet can be discerned by his fruits. The most critical element we would look for in a true prophet is the testimony of Jesus. And revealed scripture would be consistent with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Revealed scripture would also enlighten our minds as to the nature and characteristics of God, the meaning and purpose of the Atonement, the purpose of life, what happens after death.

And, God has always spoken to people in every other age. Why place limits on God by saying he certainly can't speak today because we already have a Bible. Certainly if there was a prophet on the earth today God would speak to him as well.

Okay. Many have claimed to be prophets and gained followers, which some still continue today, some disbanded for various reasons and other have been obliterated. How does one make the distinction between a real and false prophet because even the false ones had followers that were quite educated.

1) It is EXTREMELY difficult to write or teach something on your own that would stay consistent with scriptures. The more you write the more likely you will say something that will contradict what has already been revealed. False prophets are usually quickly exposed be an intelligent human being because what they write doesn't add up.

2) The Holy Ghost will testify of the truth to the genuine seeker.

True Blue 2 writes: A true prophet can be discerned by his fruits.
This simply isn’t true. Just because someone doesn’t hold the same values or morals as the next person does not disqualify someone to speak with or for GOD. If fruit is what one wants to discern, go to a produce market.

the proof of a prophet has always been the truth of his prophecies , you must be able to tell the future , and it must come true, then you are a prophet hence ----and it shall come to pass----etc etc . if it doesnt happen then well the guy was a fake

When I began posting elsewhere I called myself a prophet because having had one direct touch to the Godhead, I thought that I should let others know about the experience.

When they stopped laughing, it took much work to regain trust from those who use labels like crazy and druged etc.

People will not believe based on words alone. They need miracles.

Much of scripture was written by those that received information while (in the spirit).
I take this to mean in telepathic communication with the Godhead. Modern language.
I found it strange that most will not believe in telepathy but will quote endlessly those that were (in the spirit) and what they reveal.
There is a real resistance to belief to anything I say unless it matches what the reader already believes. Even when I quote from the Bible.
I usually begin with a claim that God is perfect and that His works are perfect, as befits a God and from there, almost all argue for the imperfection of God and His systems.
I guess that shows what kind of faith Christians have in God. None.
I recognize God’s perfect system all around us. If any here can believe this also, I would be pleased to discuss anything.
If you do not have a fairly open mind then you will not be pleased with anything that I say because most Christians wait for God to return and fix things while I, and God, do not see anything that needs fixing.
If all His works are perfect as scripture indicates then this statement must be true.
If you can see this, lets chat.

So how do some groups stay with their so called prophet for so long? I've only heard of disbandments of cult type groups which lose faith in their prophet after their prophecies of the end of the world don't come true etc, but what about leaders like Binkley, or is it Brinkley, the LDS leader, what prophecies of his have proven to come true - I ask because I don't know, not to allege anything.

when you were a prophet what did you prophetise

Did he foresee himself becoming banned I wonder?

Wow. Not even going to comment. :areyoucra

There is a thought-provoking proverb from Patrickism that just may pre-date any and all Biblical scriptures:

“Those that bring fruit to a discussion with GOD are bound to leave with a bowl full of pits.”
