Moral Perception

Our perception of how we feel society stands morally, may impact the type of leader one supports.

"Our research is the first that provides evidence of the causal links between perceived moral division in society and the desire to elect extreme leaders as a potential solution,” Crimston told PsyPost.

Study provides first evidence of a causal link between perceived moral division and support for authoritarian leaders

I concur that this is probably the case, and we are certainly seeing this play out in the world today.

Huh. Maybe that explains my general apathy towards my country’s politics. Both parties are corrupt. I just go for what I think is the “lesser of two evils.”
But they can all go jump off a tall cliff as far as I’m concerned

One thing I've noticed is that both parties try to outdo each other in some kind of moral competition, as well as which party is closer to "American values" than the other. They both claim to be the "true believers" while the other side is evil. They routinely call each other "fascist" or "communist" as pejoratives, suggesting the other side is the worst thing in the world.

I'm thinking of starting a new party, the Party of Good. Anyone who runs against us would be evil by default.

Yeah, I've noticed. It's what leads to the belief in a moral division to begin with, it's not one side or the other, it's people's personalities and politicians attempting to play these personalities against each other to their benefit.
