More accepted in society?

Youth Violence Entertainment Industry | Video | C-SPAN.org

Lt Col Dave Grossman calls violent entertainment a addictive toxic substance. He says the video game industry is going down hard. This video is from 1999. Fast forward to 2014 and the entertainment industry is still strong. What happened? Has Lt Col Dave Grossman been discredited? Have video games become more mainstream and accepted and as a result of that less people pay attention to their rants?

Game companies knows that violent games sells so they flood the market with them and add a lot pointless violence in games that do not need them and for roleplaying games avoid adding quests with non violent solutions.

I've got loads of non-violent games. There are more violent ones, sure, but I think that has more to do with game design issues than "violence sells". Shooting baddies is a relatively simple programming problem and consistently gives the player something to do. Puzzles are much more complicated from a design perspective.
