More than 100 political elites in todays government have slaveholding ancestry.

I think reparations for slavery are a good idea.
Let's see if descendants of slave owners personally
step up to pay descendants of slaves.
How about when the descendants of slaves are rich and the descendants of slave owners are poor? Should the poor pay reparations to the rich?

The article has more than enough information in it to answer your question.
No, it doesn't. Honestly if someone tried to grill me about something an ancestor did I'd probably get especially crappy with them as it's something I had no control or say or part in.

That includes Presidents,

Biden 1 slave

Bush 25 slaves

Carter 54 slaves

Clinton 1 slave

Obama. 2 slaves

There's a slew of house and senate members, governers and representatives also listed along with the number of slaves owned

Many had declined to comment on the history of their slaveholder families.

It's quite an eye opener.
How many are descendants of rapists? If great great grandpa was 19 when he met great great grandma at age 16, (common 100+ years ago) by today’s standards that is rape! And since this post is about judging people of the past according to the standards of today, that should be quite an eye opener as well; right?

Yes.
No matter how impoverished Obama
might become, he still owes Oprah.

Okay. Did THEY own slaves or do THEY support slavery?

Most every culture has had slaves in their ancestry.

None have to comment on such history just to appease the few that expect retribution for the acts of the long passed lineage.

I will never understand how a few try to impose guilt for the deeds of another persons ancestors.

Trump's family: zero.
Because his grandfather is from Germany, where slavery was abolished after the fall of the Western Roman Empire;
by the end of the X century and with the birth of the Holy Roman Empire, slavery had completely disappeared in Central Europe. ;)

In his blood there is not that elitist blue blood that runs in the veins of the Bushes...
German involvement in the slave trade and New World plantation economies (16th-19th centuries)
German entanglements in transatlantic slavery: An introduction
Emancipation without Abolition in German East Africa, c. 1884–1914
Why don't Germans know about their part in the slave trade?

Also, Trump is half-Scottish.

Scots involvement in the Atlantic slave trade

So, the likelihood of Trump having "zero" ancestors who profited from slavery is slim to none.

He's certainly not the first one in his family to be shown a bigot. New Yorkers have known that Trump and his father were racist POS for over half a century. Both were sued in what was, at the time, the largest discrimination case by the DOJ.

United States v. Fred C. Trump, Donald Trump, and Trump Management, Inc. Filed Date: Oct. 15, 1973
Fact Check-Trump had been accused of racism by contemporaries prior to presidential campaign
Fred Trump, the Ku Klux Klan and Grassroots Redlining in Interwar America
Woody Guthrie, 'Old Man Trump' and a real estate empire's racist foundations

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree and it's a far greater likelihood that orchard has been diseased for some time.

To me, the most interesting thing about this is that it shows the longevity of the ruling class, who pass their privilege down through generations.

It doesn't bother me who did and who didn't have slaves, as I believe they were simply products of their time and culture. The idea that their descendants are somehow responsible for their actions is ridiculous.

I did find the party breakdown in this little snippet interesting, though: "Reuters found that at least 8% of Democrats in the last Congress and 28% of Republicans have such ancestors. The preponderance of Republicans reflects the party’s strength in the South, where slavery was concentrated. Although white people enslaved Black people across Northern states in early America, by the eve of the Civil War, slavery was almost entirely a Southern enterprise."

It is?
I figure that everyone has malefactors in their ancestry.
It's a near statistical certainty, not just cuz so many
people are involved, but also morals have evolved.
I have a great uncle on my father's side that was apparently very well-known for his abominable behavior. I have seen newspaper clippings about his appointments before judges over some of his behavior in what were termed "thirst parlors" and one account of him nearly beating his own brother-in-law to death.

It isn't as if there is one family in Georgia or Wisconsin that is cranking out all the bad seeds and taking a hit for the rest of the team.

He did the ones in the federal prisons.
He never even visited them.
Besides prison forced labor is punishment
for wrongdoing. They don't get to spend
their incarceration sitting on pillows, eating
bonbons & watching their stories on TV.

I'm sure there are a great many people alive that have slave-holding ancestry. Have you done a thorough checked on your own? You may be surprised what you find.

Well, I wasn't going to vote for the lad, but in light of this obviously objective evidence, I'll be casting my vote for him in the next presidential election.

Thank you for this invaluable insight!
