More than 100 political elites in todays government have slaveholding ancestry.

The article itself mentions non government individuals as well have ancesteral ties to slaveholders. Maybe you missed that.

It would be nice if the article did change the world, but it's a start.
I must have indeed missed.
Seeing as I only saw a brief quip about those not in the authors cross hairs.
Perhaps you will be kind enough to present the list I must have missed?

Revealing that peoples ancestors used to own slaves back when slavery was generally accepted will change the world how, exactly?

Ya know, maybe sometime it is just good to know your history.

Maybe instead of asking why it should be revealed, ask why it should be concealed?

They have not revealed my history at all.

My family tree has been tracked back to the mid 1500s
but that is neither here nor there

Maybe instead of asking why it should be revealed, ask why it should be concealed?
It wasn't concealed.
The fact that the article linked in the OP found it to reveal...

Hells bells, they used public records used by millions researching their genealogy...

So what exactly is the problem?

There is no problem on my end.

I merely pointed out that the author of the linked article seems to think they are revealing some deep dark secret that will change the world.

Others took exception to my opinion and now we are here.

Can you provide proof of this?
3. Some 560,000 prisoners were victims of forced labor to the benefit of private individuals or organizations in 2016, according to anti-slavery group Alliance 8.7.

4. The United States and China have the world’s largest prison populations - estimated at 2.1 million and 1.65 million respectively - housing some of the biggest jail labor systems.

5. China runs a network of prison facilities that use forced labor to produce goods for export - ranging from Christmas decorations to footwear - according to a U.S. government report.

6. U.S. inmates are often paid less than $1 an hour for work, be it making clothes or fighting fires. Prisoners staged a strike in 2018 demanding the minimum wage and better conditions.

"Prisoners staged a strike in 2018 demanding the minimum wage and better conditions."

Give them minimum wage. Then charge them for food, housing and utilities.

Just look down under the sub title, Lost Wealth Lasting Status. Starts after the first paragraph. There are also numerous comments throughout that explains how it can change things as well.

Particularly as it applies to today's politicians who are denying or evading Reuters attemps to talk about their ancestry with them.

Trump's family: zero.
Of course Donny has a bad habit of hiring people and not paying them, as if they are slaves.
Because his grandfather is from Germany, where slavery was abolished after the fall of the Western Roman Empire;
by the end of the X century and with the birth of the Holy Roman Empire, slavery had completely disappeared in Central Europe. ;)
It must be a different Germany that committed the Holocaust.
In his blood there is not that elitist blue blood that runs in the veins of the Bushes...
Right. It's a corrupt kind of elitism, thinking he is above the law.

Just read the exception clause in the 13 amendment itself. All the proof you will ever need.

It's there plain as day.
The exception clause does not prove there are people in prison who are owned by other people today. Care to try again? Provide proof that there are slaves in US Prison.

Of course they are owned by the government and they can force them to work against their will for profit and be essentially sold err..."contracted" to private companies for profit until their sentence ends and awarded their freedom papers if ever.

Review the 13th amendment again.

Only if they improve those things. Overcrowding is common, inmates cook to death in Texas, die of a fungal infection in California, and the food is low quality junk and carb heavy.

How are prisoners forced to work against their will? Are they beaten by their owners? And how are prisoners able to go on strike if they are forced to work against their will?

That was a huge risk as inmates don't get fo say no and a strike could easily be judged as disruptive behavior.
Amd because the 13th allows for labor as a punishment. Thats how its forced.
