Mount St. Helen's

Luckily, yes. :D

However, being blanketed in ash within a ten-mile radius would not be much fun... ;)

I was a baby when Mt. St. Helens errupted, the ash was so bad it reached me and my parents 250 miles away. They say they remember it blowing down the streets.

ash is a sign that Mt. St.Helens is still kickin'. It is definatly part of a new ongoing active phase for this volcano. I wonder how long it will be untill it fully errupts again?
At this point it isn't a question of if, but when and how bad.

St. Helen's sister is right in my back yard. Mt. Baker. I rememeber the eruption in '80. I remember a 10 minute piece of film news footage of a reporter who was near St. Helen's when it erupted. He rolled the camera after the eruption and within a minute or so was surrounded by ash. You couldn't see anything on the film, the ash was so thick, but he continued to talk. At one point he makes reference to not knowing if he was actually alive or dead at that moment. he was so confused he actually believed that he could be dead already and not even know it. He continued on that tack for a while as he wandered aimlessly around the forest he was standing in. He really had no idea where he was. Very haunting piece of film/sound.
