movies that need praise

Are there movies out there that you think don't get viewed enough, don't get enough mainstream praise or that most don't know about in general and you think need to see them?

my pick is Jim Carrey in "The Majestic"
it's like...holy crap Jim Carrey can act?!?!?!
a good heart warming movie w/ a speech at the end that gave me goosebumps!

I just saw Resident Evil: Apocalypse and was really suprised. I really enjoyed it, more that the first. I think Milla Jovovich is a really good actress and I hope she gets some really good rolls in the future.

Not to mention she's hot as hell...

Two older movies that everyone should see are "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "Midnight Express". While hardly obscure, they are almost 30 years old. There are many more, but those two are at the top of my list.

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. Still the best movie ever made concerning the subjects of chocolate rivers and freaky little orange people.

Cube is good.

I just saw Battle Royal the other day. Good concept and I guess it was popular in Asia. I liked it.

I have a soft spot for 5th Element (Milla again) for some reason.

There's two movies I think are totally underrated: the excellent, inspiring, and heart-felt sci-fi/underwater thriller movie "The Abyss", and the ultra-classic animated animal story "The Secret of NIMH". I want to make a Secret of NIMH RPG :) *fanboy*

Also...I Heart Huckabees. I took two of my friends, and my brother to see it...and everyone I know who's ever seen it has absolutely loved it! Might even be my favorite movie ever :p

And yes...Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are pretty awesome movies. And if you want to see Jim Carrey act, you should see "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"...it's so wierd to see him play a totally different character than he's ever done...a really shy, nervous, uptight guy. Oh, and it's an awesome and far-out movie!

Yes. Trainspotting.

i love this movie!!!

-Doesn't it make you proud to be Scottish?
-Being Scottish is ****e!
It is a classic. None of my friends have seen or heard of it which is disturbing since it was made by Channel 4. I love it because I know of nothing like it and so it struck me with its originality.

I'd like to nominate the absurdly and deceptively titled Dirty Dancing.

A story of a woman selflessly taking a moral stand against prejudice and hypocrisy. Confronting authority despite the opprobrium her action is sure to create. Righteous altruism vs hypocritical propriety.

I'm definitely with you here FOS. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is one of my favorite movies.

I'd like to personally add in Spider Baby, The Anarchist's Cookbook and Penelope Spheeris's Suburbia.
