What kind of movies does everyone like? Vote for as many apply.

Personally, I love war movies, musicals, adventure and dramas like Meet Joe Black, The English Patience, The Piano... I like big stories, lots of characters, thick with plot.

I love fantasy, comedy, and any thought-provoking films (not necessarily in that order or combination ;))

Feathers in Hair

World's Tallest Hobbit
Anime (especially "Spirited Away"), any drama in which I can grow to really like the characters, and any musical that has Donald O'Connor or Ewan MacGregor in it. (Sadly, it's not looking like there'll be one with them both in it.)

I watched that just yesterday, Feathers! :D Have you ever watched the DVD and the Japanese version? There are a few small details in the wording that give it a different impact than the English version.

Ooo, I haven't done that yet, Jensa! I don't know why, either, because I usually listen to the TV series' in Japanese. The thing is, watching that movie always makes me incredibly hungry!

I'd better get some food on hand and put on the DVD player!

Be sure to turn it to the second 'set' of subtitles; the first follows the English and is for the hearing impaired, and the second is a translation of what was said in the Japanese audio. :)

And you're in for a treat... Haku's voice is so sweet in the Japanese version! :D And Chihiro's much less whiney-sounding.

My favourite kind of movie are those with a minimal amount of action and plot happening on screen and held together through clever script and character development. The plot is then revealed slowly to the audience via character interaction. I know that sounds a bit specific but there are plenty of movies that fall into that category for me. Resevoir Dogs is an excellent example of what I mean. Trainspotting is also another excellent example but falls down, in my opinion, as soon as it starts becoming plot orientated (ie when they start the drug dealing bit but its still very good).

I also like tragedies. Especially tragedies done in the original Greek style ie the hero has a character flaw that predestines his impending doom but others are good too. Donnie Darko is probably my favourite tragedy of all time.

Lastly, whilst I wouldn't rate the film itself anywhere in my top 10, I did find Willy Wonka in the latest Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to be absolutely brilliant.

Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors and Tim Burton is an amazing director.

Willy Wonka is one of my favorite movies now... I'm just a hopeless Depp fangirl :p I love his acting skills. One of my friends made a joke about me being such a Depp fangirl and being lesbian, to which another friend replied "No, you see, if Jensa was to ever do anything with Depp, she'd be convinced he was a girl... he's that good an actor." :biglaugh:

Speaking of Burton, who's looking forward to the Corpse Bride? It looks very amusing.

I can't wait for the Corpse Bride, The Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favorites. :) My girlfriend swoons over Depp a little too much too. :)

I couldn't pick a specific genre. If anything, I love movies that clash genres or include two different genres that haven't or shouldn't go together. Valley Of the Gwangi combines western (cowboys, gypsies, horses) with creature horror (dinosaurs, legends). Legend Of the Seven Golden Vampires combine the British horror of Count Dracula with the Hong Kong martial art genre to produce a very bizarre film. Shaun Of the Dead combined humor (British) with zombies (horror). The only thing I ask from movies is that they show me something I haven't seen before. It could be any genre, just make the story original and entertaining.

I have just this minute come back from seeing a pre-release preview of Jane Austen's Pride & prejudice (with Donald Sutherland and Dame Judy Dench).

I loved it - I even managed to stay awake throughout (which shows how good it was) - and I only cried a bit, at the end; I love soppy and happy romances......:D
