Mr. Trump Calls Fallen Servicemen "Suckers" and "Losers"

Hey everybody, look at Bernstein trying to be relevant. So all stories based on anonymous sources should be given the benefit of the doubt? No. Does the name Jayson Blair of the New York Times ring a bell? He posted many false stories based on anonymous sources.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Each stories stands on its own. This story from The Atlantic doesn’t cut the muster.

its not just bernstein. thats how it works in journalism sometimes.

fox news has used anonymous sources

that is again another hypocrisy. and no that isn't extraordinary given trump's overall behavior.

REAL journalists don’t publish stories sourced solely from anonymous sources. Bernstein didn’t do that about Watergate. He only always held back until there was confirmation from other sources. The Atlantic didn’t do that.

someone starts a story and then the other's sources fact check it. its like science, someone publishes a report and then others pile on and check it out to see if it repeats itself.

AGAIN FOX NEWS HAS DONE THIS TOO

FYI other journalist sources have confirmed. Even a fox journalist confirmed.

do you still believe the birther story on Obama?

OMG. First of all I don’t watch Fox News. Maybe you should stop making silly assumptions.

Second, this about using uncorroborated anonymous sources. There is a world of difference. The Atlantic has prostituted their journalist integrity by publishing a story based only on anonymous sources. That’s not journalism.

o but it is naive one. it is journalism.

journalists have gone to jail for their anonymous sources having information that they supposedly shouldn't know and knew.

Its because Patton was decried for lambasting a soldier with shell shock.

I could just imagine what would have been said about him now had he were alive with this generation.

I'm not saying Trump is on par with Patton, I'm saying I suspect Trump is being taken out of context with these continuous allegations that seemingly never end.

I would prefer to view Trump quoting that in context rather than rely on third party references on what he said and what he meant beforehand and afterwards before making judgements.
It’s also interesting that you lean towards Trump being “taken out of context”. But Trump isn’t saying he was taken out of context - he says he didn’t say these things at all.

I don’t mean to pigeonhole you but I have to say, apologists for Trump use this tactic often. They take a more generous line of defense than Trump takes in his own defense - tacitly conceding he’s a liar, in the process.

Just as an example of what I’m talking about: when Trump used a sharpie to alter a hurricane map ... Trump’s apologists said it wasn’t a big deal, that’s not what he meant, etc. But Trump said **he didn’t do it**. His defenders are smart enough to know that’s not true, and therefore insert better defenses into his mouth on his behalf. They are not fooled by him ... but they are sadly fooling themselves.

So? That’s Fox News’ business to defend. That has nothing to do with me.

If that were true. That would simply mean both Fox AND The Atlantic did something wrong.

not publishing a source doesn't make something wrong; especially if it puts the source at risk of retribution.

The story was based on anonymous sources plus documented facts.

Certain parts of the story, like Trump using the word “suckers”, are based on anonymous sources. But multiple sources, independently corroborating each other.

That’s not as reliable as on the record sources, and should be considered in that context. But, it is legitimate journalism and should be considered. Trump is a man who personally attacks those who cross him up to and including federally protected whistleblowers, so naturally if the story is true, the sources are afraid to go on the record.

The key element of the story is based solely on anonymous sources. THAT is a fact.

What a coincidence! I know a reporter that claims The Atlantic made this whole story up after being paid by Joe Biden in a dark alley in unmarked bills. The reporter says his sources are anonymous. That’s not a problem is it?

Very true. It would be more credible (still not 100% certain) if the sources went on the record.

I have a question for you. You said extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. To you, would it be extraordinary if Trump used the word “suckers”?

This is not a trick question, just curious to know your view.

well given the fact that you have already disparaged the Atlantic, i don't think you would seriously consider that source reliable either.

you're going from one extreme to another. seriously just go vote for Trump and stop trying to make excuses for him.
