MRI scans

Who here has had an MRI scan?

This morning I had an MRI scan so a specialist can take a look at the inside of my back, which has been gone since August

I found the whole experience to be much less distressing than I expected and the radiographers were all very nice

The hardest part was getting up off the thing I had to lie down on that fed me into the machine

The machine was made by Phillips, who I think also make TVs

It took about 15 minutes though, but they gave me some headphones to wear so I could listen to the radio whilst the scan took place

It made a funny mechanical noise but this was drowned out by the radio

I could quite happily have fallen asleep in there

I've had more than a few.

These are the gradient coils. Each pulse of electricity makes the vibrate, which is the "funny mechanical" noise you heard.

And just in case you're wondering how that funny sounding machine costs...

I took a Valium beforehand to avoid the
possibility of claustrophobia setting in.
It was very relaxing.
BTW, I had to have my head examined first.
(To ensure no metal remained from an eye
injury....a metal grinding splinter.) Fortunately,
nothing was found in my head.
