Mugged Part 2

Fluffy

A fool
As some of you might remember, I posted a few weeks ago that I had got mugged. Well since then, after going to the police, some people were arrested and an indentification parade is being held tomorrow. There were four guys involved and I will have to pick them out of 12 possible people.

Today, not 2 hours ago, 4 of one of these guys friends sought me out in the middle of town. They told me that if I did not drop the charges against their friend they would kill me or hurt me seriously. Since they were able to find me so easily I fear there will be at least some retribution from these people.

Now I have to make a decision on whether to pick this guy out or not. I can't tell my parents because they will go to the police straight away whether I like it or not.

Don't let them intimidate you, Fluffy. I'd report the other guys to the police as well... if they have a lick of sense they'll stop with the threats once the police are on their tails.

Fluffy,
Somehow I missed the post about you being mugged. That must have been a frightening experience...but probably not as much as being threatened by these people.

Can you get any help or protection from the police?

I'm feel horrible that that happened, Fluffy. (Especially to someone as wonderful as you!)

I don't know if I'd have the courage to do so in this situation, but I would be tempted to mention to the police the death threat. I think that's one of the worst things that someone can do to a person, and feel that they should learn why that is so. I also understand any hesitation to do so, though.

I'll be sending energy to you, whichever you decide.

The Police take such threats very seriously. I would phone the police and tell them now.
If they do not offer help you can always pull out.
But the four will target you even if they think you have helped the police . Your best bet is to help.If they know the police know who they are they are less likely to try anything.
And be sure to tell your parents. I their shoes you would want to know.

Where in England do you live.

I'm sorry you were mugged, it is something no one should have to endure.
I agree with Terry on this one, and it is likely they would all come after you if they get away with it, so don't be intimidated, do your best to have them put away.

Good luck.

If you believe they would come after you, it couldn't hurt to take the precaution to keep all windows/doors locked and to keep a phone near you at all times, either.

It's your call Fluffy; but IMO you can't let these guys get away with it. If you were my son, I'd tell you the same - get on the 'phone to the police straight away.

I can understand if you don't want to, and that is why I said it's your call. These are mean minded bullies who deserve every thing they get. We have similar things happening here in Bournemouth - there is one particularly bad area from where these gangs come from.

I am so sorry this had to happen after you had to go through the original mugging - that is just adding insult to injury; I wish there was something I could do to help, but of course there isn't.

Do talk it over with your parents; you must get this off your chest - you need their backing, their support. This must be awful for you.........:(

fluffy i am really ignorant of the justice system in the UK. I would say though assult cases are very trickiy in my country. Violent crimes are a felony in all cases over here pending the plea down. That means the convicitions have consquences that act as a deterient.

While I don't know what it is like over there things I hope you consider include

1) the viablity of the threats. Are they, in your estimation reasonably likey to act on their threats.

2) what is the min and max consquences for the muggers conviction?

3) if you went to the police and reported the threat what, if anything would they be charged with?

4) does the mugger have a prior that will enhance his sentence (priors make for stiffer penatlies in the usa not sure about uk).

5) how often have u interacted with this group in the last year

6) how violent was the mugging ? (trying to estimate groups propensity for violence).

I can answer one question: No 3 - the ones threatening Fluffy would be 'perverting the course of Justice; a max sentence of 10 years - but most likely 5 years (with remission- if 'good boys') - 2 years 6 mths (with time spent in remand pre trial taken off the sentence) - not long enough:(

Perverting the course of justice, an offence at common law, is triable on indictment only, carrying a maximum
sentence of life imprisonment. However, no sentence above 10 years has been passed in the last century for this offence.:shout

I would think with the things happening in London right now, any threat would be taken extremely seriously. I would let the police know, and let them know they won't get away with things like this when it comes to you.

If it goes to court and the trial Judge thinks they are still threatining him, even by pointing at him in the court room. they can have the book thrown at them. Trial Judges have unlimited powers in this respect, and it does not even go to trial. He can pass sentance there and then.
for contempt of court.

Hi Fluffy, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. You must know that you cannot let these pathetic losers get away with this. If they get away with it this time, they will only do it to someone else.
Set the example and inform the police. Good luck !

I agree; but I can understand Fluffy's predicament; these guys have friends, who have friends...................:(

Thankyou to everybody! I've done the Identification Parade now, picked out the muggers as best I could (though I don't think I got the guy whom I was threatened over, ironically) and told the police about the threats.

My friends were pissed off with me over that but oh well. I have to do what I believe is right. Its going to be difficult with only me making a statement, I just hope the other people there come around and give me some support in this.

The police can't offer me protection but then any protection they could offer wouldn't really be the kind of protection I'd like. I know it sounds stupid but having another human being hate me frightens and hurts me far more than the threat of death or GBH.

To Terry: I live in Reading in Berkshire. Also we are hoping it doesn't go to trial because if we identify them correctly then, under the pressure, they might just plead guilty and get sentenced.

Hehe yeah it did seem like that last night. It felt like that I was just recreating the situation and I would get threatened by another group of people for this new lots sake! But then I just think of the alternative. Its like being stuck between a rock and a hard place but I know which is the right thing to do so I might as well do that :).

Thank you all once again!
