Few questions, about how you view childcarers or professional nannys,
I am thinking of going into this field rather than down the school/nursery route and would like parents perspective on this

Would you consider hiring a nanny?
Would you be more likely to hire a government reccomended nanny rather than a private reference?
What is your understanding of qualifications in childcare?
Do you value qualifications over experience or the other way around?
Would there be any concerns about hiring soemone to look after your child ie bad press, past trials etc?
Anything else you want to add :D
Thanks

I wouldnt personally hire a nanny, I enjoy my children's company to much.
Bad press.... hmm ive seen some, but never judge a book by its cover.... There is good and bad everywhere.
I wish you lots of luck though.

I agree with Evenstar; we always wanted to be the ones to bring up our own children. It seems illogical to have someone other than the parent help 'mold' the character of an offspring.

Having said that, we were both too paranoid to leave others in charge of our two; except on the odd occasion, with grandparents.

I am glad we are too old for kids now!!!:D

Reminds me when we hired a babysitter. Old Irish lady. She came in, ask my youngest what he wanted for breakfast. He replied, "I want some f*#@ing pancakes!" She smacked him, down he went... Look at our girl and asked what YOU want for breakfast... Shaking, she replied "I don't want no f*#@ing pancakes!" :biglaugh: Just joking!

Qualifications and registration is necessary for anyone working with children these days.

The important thing is to love and understand children.
There will always be rich and time pressured people.
Their kids need all the care and love they can get.

I is not the kids fault they have part time parents, and sometimes the parents have little choice.

If you feel this is your world go for it.

I would love to homeschool my kids, when I have them up until the age of about 5 or 6

Its very rewarding to watch them grow in their education. My kids are now 11, 8 and 5 and ive been schooling them for 2 years. I hope to carry on for a long time :)

Did you have to do alot of fighting with the local education authority to prove to them you can homeschool your kids?

No not at all.... I had to write a letter to the school superintendant and tell him on my intent to homeschool them for that school term.
Each year 2 weeks before the start of the school term, I write telling him.
All I keep is a record of days schooled, and report cards... that I make up on the computer...

Here there is no fighting to homeschool and in some States the parents need to attend classes or have qualifications to school.... but in KY none is needed.

Proud to be a Sinner.
I would not hire anyone i think would be too immature or incompetant to handle such a job.

Acctually i personally want to be the homebody.

Dark Waltz, I'm sure you would make a great nanny. Just don't give up or let others limit your own desires... :D
Thankyou, I have been working with children since I was 14 on and off, professionally since I was 16 but recently I fancy a change of pace either flying solo or head of room preferably baby room :D

Little true story here. I used to clean carpets. You made your money with selling add-ons. We would hire someone new, send him to the poorer part of town, would come back making a bunch with him selling the add-ons. He'd get back in, his fellow workers would tell him he got lucky and would never be able to do that again. And guess what? He wouldn't, because he listened to others instead of himself
