Music has lost it's meaning?

1.) Appear in some sitcom/ b-grade soapie that no one ever watches.

2.)(MAIN STEP) Have a teen magazine promote the F*** out of you.

3.) Release one terrible song that has the words "love" in it.

4.) Release some crappy merchandise with your name on it.

Congratulations, you are a pop star.

It doesn't take much, does it.
Music isn't about talent anymore. It's about what get's hyped. What gets played OVER and OVER till people get hooked on. Some of the popstars can't even sing in time. Hilary Duff(GRRRRR) is an example. Ok, so she has a cute face. But where did she come from?
Some :biglaugh: show that was pretty, um lame. Now look at her. I will stop there before I say something bad about her. If I hear that name I will Skitz...

Music is supposed to be heard, not seen or worn.

This is MY opinion btw.

I think there are some really great musicians out there, they don't seem to get as much attention as the "rock stars". I am not a fan of rap. Good music has not lost its meaning for those who want to hear it.

Well, I think you have to look for good music now, which is a difference. Back in the 50s or 60s or even the 70s, you tended to get famous because you were good, which now is sadly not the case. Pretty much anyone can get "famous" or become "a star". Good music is still there, but it's swamped by a flood of rubbish. Search and you will find.

Or indeed pop idol as it is in Britain. Mind you we also have the x-factor, fame academy, and many others. A deluge I tell you!

Alot of music today is all about the image, because that's what sells.
It's this TRL generation that needs to wake up to the fact that all their music is crap!
(well not all but a large majority)

Are we as a society adamant about are music or just nostalgic? Like I would listen to today's music and I can UNDERSTAND the attraction for this generation but 10 or 20 years from now is today's generation going to be complaining about their present idols or genres in music? I believe there is a certain connection between music and the way it makes us feel at a certain moment and that this could vary between individuals but is it because we are evolving in our taste in music or is it a factor of growing older that we comment our feelings about today's music?

I am open to all types of music. Heck. I am just openminded. There's a selection to choose from so you can change what you are listening to all the time without playing one artist all the time. Well...I tend to do that cause I am just too lazy to take out another tape to listen too. :biglaugh:

Each generation finds it's own meaning in its music. What I understnd and love is rooted in Folk Music growing out of the 60's

I find a curious attraction to Big Band Jazz Blues music of the 20's, 30's, 40's even at a very young age. It was very automatic for me. It wasn't a taste that I had to BE aquired either, just music that was very inviting.

I also find that the classic music standards that Carl Stalling would incorporate into the Warner Bros. cartoons were sort of an introduction to the many classical "hits" that I would listen to and appreciate all my life.
