Muslims: A Quiz - How well do you know your History?

Gharib

I want Khilafah back
Salams to all.

Bismilahir-rahmanir-rahim
all praise is due to Allah and may his peace and blessing be upon his final Messenger Muhammed salallahu alayhi wa salam.

i would like to quiz everyone, including myself, on the history of islam. since my knowledge is limited, i would like to adopt the same rule that has been used before, whoever answers correctly gets to make the next question so as to challenge the other members since we don't all have the same knowledge.
the questions must be on islamic history and please don't look up the answers, answer from the knowledge that you have, i think this is a great opportunity for me to learn something i didn't know before. and another rule i'd like to mention is that if in someone else's answer you read something you did not know then you are not permitted to copy/mention that part in your response, please be honest Allah is Al Basir. here goes the first question:

Name as many of the Sahaba radiallahu anhum as you can.

i don't know if i should be the first to answer this so i will let someone else go first.
salamu alaykum

Peace

Peace has not mentioned any women while Shia Islam has, so i have a side question, i don't understand arabic which is why i ask the question whether the word Sahab refers only to the muslim males who saw the Prophet or does it refer to the muslim women who saw him also?

if it refers to both then i'd like to mention the women:

Khadija
Fatima bint Muhammed
Aisha bint AbuBakr
Umm Salama
Asma bint Abu Bakr

thats all i can think of for now, i do know more i just can't think of their names right now.

brother you have mentioned Abu Talib but unfortunately he died a non-muslim.

In order to protect the prophet, Abu Talib has hidden his faith, but he acknowledge his belief before his death.

There are many evidence of this, including the fact that his wife, the mother of imam Ali a.s. was a believer, and the prophet did not order her to separate form her husband. If he was disbeliever then it's not allowed for her to stay with him.

You know that Imam Ali a.s. has killed many of the enemies of the prophet during the time of the prophet SAAW, that's why imam Ali a.s. has inherited many enmity from the families of those killed disbelievers...

The hate to Ali a.s. led people to insist that his father, Abu Talib was disbeliever. Strangely, they accept Abu Sufyan, who fought the prophet for 20 years, before surrendering under force, as a Muslim companion.

Many scholars authored about the Islam of Abi Talib.
Here are an example from the famous book, the nights of Pishawer. I must say that i did not read it:

that is an interesting link, i never knew that a second view regarding Abu Talibs acceptance/rejection of islam existed. i will read the link and i might open a new thread about the issue and discuss that insha Allah.

Actually, I followed your question and wrote down the Sahaba that came to my mind. Sahaba is the plural of Sahabi and it's masculine. For women we say Sahabiyaat, the plural of Sahabiya.
I didn't mention the Prophet's daughters or wives, may Allah be pleased with them all because they are of his household. And I also didn't mention his grandsons Al Hassan & Al Hussain, please Allah be pleased with them because they were still kids in his life.

Elhamdulilah, i knew i would learn new things by opening this thread.
Jazak Allah khair for the explanation sister, may Allah reward you greatly.

well since i said Sahaba in my question then lets stick to that, maybe a future question could be about the Sahabiyaat. i need to do some reading in case such a question does come up.

as for Hassan and Hussain radiallahu anhum, i do not know how old they were when the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam died, but if they were young aren't they considered to be Sahabis? a Sahabi and Sahabiya is someone who lived to see the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa salam correct?

if what i have said above is not correct then Sister Peace you are the winner since no one else has answered and you did name more Sahaba than brother Shia Islam and myself. you can make the next question if you wish.

I am sorry, but Abu Talib didn't embrace Islam. He did know that Islam is the truth but because of the dignity of al jahiliya he just coudn't enter Islam for fear that his tribe Quraysh will say that he left the religion of his grandfathers. The evidence that you gave is false because the verse that prohibited Muslims to not to keep non-Muslim spouses was revealed after Al Hijrah in Al madinah and as you know Abu Talib died before the emigration.

The hate to Ali a.s. led people to insist that his father, Abu Talib was disbeliever.

Exuse me, who hate sayyindna Ali?? You must know that whoever hate sayidna Ali is not a true Muslim. True Muslims love sayyidna Ali as well as other companions of the Prophet peace be upon him. Whoever hate one of the Sahaba is like if he is doubting and attacking the education of the Prophet peace be upon him since he is the one who educated As-sahaba, ridwano Lah `alayhim ajma`in.

Strangely, they accept Abu Sufyan, who fought the prophet for 20 years, before surrendering under force, as a Muslim companion.

Islam accepts everyone and anyone who embrace it. Whoever accepts Islam, all his past bad deeds/ sins are forgiven.

Yes, it's correct. But just because when I think of them, I think of them as the family of the Prophet "Ahl al bayt" that's why I didn't mention them.

I will think of a question and submit it later incha'Allah :) Thank you for opening this thread to learn from each other, alhamdulillah!

I agree with what you said regarding the singular and the plural,

However I think that the plural in Arabic may refer to the males and also it refers to mixed groups containing males and females...

For example,

In Arabic we greet females by saying As-Salamu Alaykonna السلام عليكن

While we greet males, and also groups that contain males and females, by saying:
As-Salamu Alaykom السلام عليكم

Another example is the following verse:

والذين امنوا بالله ورسله اولئك هم الصديقون
And those who believe in Allah and His messengers, they are the loyal,

سورة 57 - آية 19

where the word الصديقون As-siddiqoon "the loyal" is the plural of the word As-sideeq الصديق, however, it is it refers to both males and females. The same true with الذين امنوا "those who believe ".

And Allah knows better,

As for Abi Talib, yes, as our brother @eslam said, it's worth bringing and discussing the evidences of both arguments…Insha'Allah.

The same is true regarding your claim that Muslim women were allowed at the beginning of Islam to live with disbeliever husbands...

As of the hate of Imam Ali a.s. , lt's enough to note that he was cursed for 80 years during the Ummayyad rulers...

And there are loads of Hadiths and traditions regarding this...

Go to the followers of Muhammed ibn abdulwahhab (you may call them Wahhabis) and start relating stories about the virtues of Ummar Ibn Al Khattab...
Then go to the same person and start relating stories about the virtues of Imam Ali a.s.
See his/her reaction in both of the cases…

As of Abi Sufyan, I need to say that we need to read the history of Islam objectively...We need to stop looking at it as a Utopian history...

Assuming that all those who fought the prophet for 20 years suddenly turned to Holy Sahaba r.a. is against logic...

There were hypocrites before the conquest of Mecca...and after it...
After the death of the prophet there were wars among the people who we calls Sahaba...Assuming that all of them were righteous is just against logic.

From what i know the first Muslim to be killed for the purpose of simply being a Muslim was a female and her name was Sumaya.

:clap correct brother :)
Sumayyah was the first martyr in Islam. She is the mother of Ammar Ibn Yassir, the companion.
