They told him he had liver problems two years ago when he finally say me at my grandma (his ma) funeral. Then he went in last week for a five day check in hospital. Now they are taking all the liquid from his liver every six months I think. Hes taking all these meds and from what he says he looks like a balloon..his legs, face I think. Hes turning sixty soon.

He told me earlier today he did all he needed to do in life. Only family who care is his sisters and myself. His other children dont talk to him unless they need something.

Anyway, I say he is dying because he says his doctor said it isnt getting better. He said he changed his diet and all but still have symptoms that impair him so much its hard to walk to far without collapsing.

He probably need sugery and hoping a family member can donate a liver. Its not too much of the illness killing him directly but also he seems to be giving up.

I want to visit him cause I didnt get to with my grandma. He is in georgia and im in virginia. I have no money and no transportation. If I had a thousand, that would be good.

Hopefully, I can find a way to come down. He keeps saying he wants to finish fixing up his house before I come down.

He says this over and over. It sounds different.

I dont know what to feel right now.

Please send your prayers and thoughts to him.

Sorry to hear , not very good with this kind of thing .
I hope your father recovers if only to give you a little more time together . They are us and we are they .
In real terms none of us are really so far behind each other the difference is negligible .
All our strength from myself , family and pets x

My sister lives near him. She told me earlier that our father may get surgery ans get a splint. They are seeing if the liver cleans itself before doing anything drastic. Trying to keep in touch.

Thank you guys!

I talked with my aunt earlier this morning and she said my father is doing better as long as he keeps up with his meds. I keep seeing people where I live die after couple years or so of liver disease. I dont know if anyone can prepare for that.

I'm sorry to hear that your dad is having issues with his health. That's rough... I'll be praying for you and your dad, and I hope you get to see your pops soon.

Sorry to hear about this, it's a tough thing to deal with. Is there any way you can visit him?

Im able to afford one way Amtrak, but I cant make it back. Was thinking when my sister comes in July, I go back down to GA with her and jsut take the Amtrack up when I leave. Father doesnt want me to come down until he finish his house. Hes been saying that for years; so, dont know really what to do. Hes doing well, they say; but, its not a condition where you can kinda live with it for long time. So, I dont know.

Save up and stay with my step mother, probably. I honestly dont know.

Sorry to hear about his illness. I've prayed for his wellbeing, hope it helps.

Here's some info I found on the web from: http://www.liver.ca/liver-disease/liver-transplants/how-do-transplants-work/
I copied the most important piece:
" Most people who develop cirrhosis of the liver due to alcohol misuse do not require a liver transplant. Abstinence from alcohol can lead to improvement in liver function by giving the liver an opportunity to regenerate."

Thank you. They are saying he may need a splint but I think maybe he was over reacting to when he said he may need a liver transplant. Im hoping not.

@Ralphg Thank you.

Guys..right now (according to the link), this is the problem:

For example, drugs called "diuretics" are used to remove excess fluid and to prevent edema and ascites from recurring. However, a low salt diet is also essential to treat those with ascites. Drug therapy can improve altered mental function associated with cirrhosis. Laxatives, such as lactulose, may be given to help absorb toxins and speed their removal from the intestines.

Hes taking these drugs and they asked if he wanted to have one of those bags to carry with him, forgot the name. He said he wasnt that old :p to need that (sorry, he did make it funny), so he goes in and gets his liver cleaned. He says its every six months but I dont know. It sounds like its hard from him to get across his room. He says he cant stand for no more than an hour yet hes walking to the store!

Anyway. Getting worked up. But In keeping in touch with my family too.

That is gratifying to hear. Lost a brother to alcohol. My son-in-law too has problems with his liver, though he is careful now.

Namaskaram Carlita ji , ...

Sorry to hear of your fathers condition , ...certainly l will pray for you both , ...

I think liver is the one organ that can regenerate to some extent , certainly enough to improve ones life condition , all it needs is Good Diet , rest , love and Stresslessness , you can realy help him just by speaking to him often , not showing your worries and reasuring and encoraging him to look after himself diet wise etc , ....Being strong for him and just keeping intouch is realy important and also very helpfull , if you can encorage him to meditate this is good , if not send him some nice music to relax to , send him any nice things you can share that bring you happiness and closeness all this is good makes him feel loved and included , realy helps with the stress of illness , happiness is wonderfull medicine .

I hope you do get to go down to see him as soon as possible , ...but Blessings and Prayers to you both

May He be cleansed in the blood of Christ, protected from the evil one, and all of the Angels and Saints surround him , interceding for him and blessing him night and day .

May He be protected from wicked Spirits, enlightened, and shepherded to paradise , in Jesus name.
