My Favorite Angel Sings ...

Patty Griffin grew up believing that angels were singing to her through her mama's voice. So I suppose it's only natural that she'd become one of those singing angels herself, one day.

As some of you are probably annoyingly aware, I am a huge Patty Griffin fan and she's just released her latest CD, which I really believe she deserves a Grammy for. It's that good. But then I'm biased.

Anyway, I wanted to share a few new bits of her from YouTube. The recordings are mostly lousy but her songwriting is so powerful and her voice so magnificent that even the terrible bootleg recordings can't diminish the amazing effect of listening to an angel sing to you through the mouth of pretty girl.

1. "Heavenly Day" - just a simple blues song to raise the spirits; from the David Letterman Show.

2. "No Bad News" - A song about the times, and the hope for something better than what we're getting.

3. "Trapeze" - recorded live in Chicago, by a fan, it's a story about what it's like being an artist.

4. "Useless Desires" - it's a bad bootleg recording, but it's a GREAT song.

5. "Mary" - someone put this together using Patty's recording, but with images of Pittsburgh. It's a magnificent song, and a good recording. But you don't get to see Patty singing it. I like this video because I live near Pittsburgh, and that's where I go to see Patty perform when she comes around.

6. "Up To The Mountain" - An amazing song she wrote in honor of Martin Luther King. Not a great recording, though.

7. "Chief" - A song remember someone from her childhood. A professional video.

8. "Love Throw A Line" - Also a professional video.

9. "Every Little Bit" - it's from one of her earliest CDs, but shows just how good she is, even early on. Another professional video, but an old one.

Thanks for bearing with my worship of all things Patty. *smile*

Aww, that's OK, PureX. :)

I have the same kind of affection for Eva Cassidy, whose music captures my heart in such a way and who passed away at too early an age. But since this is about Patty Griffin, thank you for sharing her music with us poor folks who aren't that familiar with her.

Peace,
Mystic
