My Favorite Robin Williams Movies

I only have three.

Popeye-though not a great Robert Altman movie, casting Robin Williams as the lead character was a stroke of genius.

The World According To Garp-mainly because I enjoyed the John Irving book. Showed that Robin Williams had good dramatic acting chops.

The Fisher King-great story, great director who had enough sense to let Robin Williams loose to be Robin Williams.

That's it.

John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt in To Wong Foo, thanks for everything! Julie Newmar

I can also put my hand up to liking Good Will Hunting

It's hard to decide since I really can't admit to liking much of what Williams has done. I'm going to go out on a limb to risk humiliation by admitting that I love Popeye. It's such an unfairly villified movie, while better received films like Dead Poet's Society are representative of one of few Peter Weir's fumbles (Weir is just a great director).

I do give Williams props for One Hour Photo for playing against type and doing it quite well.

It really is an uncommon opportunity of a film for any director but I can appreciate what Altman has done with it.

I spent many a weekend at my friend's watching Popeye when I was like 8 or 9. The conceptual design, sets and costumes are so incredibly imaginative and well done I think it's still one of the best looking films. Williams and Duvall were perfectly cast. I am serious when I compare films like Blade Runner, Barry Lyndon and Popeye as providing some of the most visually stunning images on film.

I'm often mocked for that opinion...:(

I love Mrs. Doubtfire and the other one, (not sure about the title) What Dreams May Come.

If I had to continue the list to 10 movies, these entries would make that list (I would be hard pressed for the remaining selections).

The Fisher King (as depressing as it is).
The Dead Poet's Society
Awakenings (probably Mr. Williams best dramatic performance).

I may as well admit it, virtually any movie with Mr. Williams in it is worth my seeing. I love the actor.
