My kitty :-(

I don't know if this is appropriate but I'm sad and I just wanted to share with people.

I've had my cat for 11 years. My dad brought it home from the SPCA for me. My mom and dad were walking down the aisle looking for a cat and my dad was looking for a big fluffy lazy cat and my mom was allergic (mildly) and so didn't care. As they were walking down the aisle my kitty reached out and pawed my mom's shoulder. She was so touched that she picked that one that is FAR from fluffy!

We took her home and she used to run up and down the hallways so we named her Yo-Yo. The only problem is that we didn't come up with a name soon enough and keep going "here kitty kitty kitty" and as a result, all she responds to is Kitty. So thats what we call her.

Shes a strictly indoor cat and has had a limp for most of her life. Well lately shes gotten really bad limp. Its gotten pretty serious to the point that it is difficult for her to walk down the stairs. Her litterbox is downstairs so she had to do it a lot. Lately she's been drinking exessive amounts of water and not eating her food.

We took her to the vet and the vet examined her and then leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. He asked us if shes and outdoor cat and dad said no. He asked if she was drinking a lot of water and dad said yes. The vet sighed and told us that our Kitty has cancer. She has cancer all down her shoulder blade and into her fore arm i guess you would call it. The doctor says that cats react to cancer by eating less and drinking more. My cat used to be the kind of cat that if you left her food out she'd eat every bite until she threw up then she'd eat more. Now shes not eating her food.

The vet gave us amoxicylin and pain killers but he said without surgery she might life three days or three months. He has no idea. My little sister is only 9 and i pray that shes not the one that walks in one day and finds the cat dead or something. It makes me sad. Shes not bad enough to put down but we had to more her litterbox upstairs and stuff. Sighs... poor Kitty.

Heres some pics of my Kitty:

To Save A Lamb
I'm so sorry. I recently lost my Jack Russel to severe arthritis that was induced by her previous owner who beat her- she was stable on chemo and steroids for years and years until she finally passed.

I'm hoping for the best for your Kitty. I'll share this poem, I'm sure you've already read it, but it is comforting to read.

The Rainbow Bridge said:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Right before Halloween 2 years ago, our 10 year :kat: Sylvester passed away from kidney failure that advanced rapidly. We set up a litter box close to food and water, but in the last week, but he stopped eating as well.

We miss him, but we keep his memory alive every time we think of his antics and smile. Of course, the 3 kitties who currently reside with us keep us busy.:)

It sounds like you're doing what you can by keeping her comfortable and loved.:162: I'll keep you, your sister, and Yo-yo in my prayers.

Thanks everyone. That poem is beautiful. Lol, Kitty would be waiting for Dad though! Shes his cat even thought hey bought her for me! She follows my dad around and even sits inbetween the shower curtians while he showers waiting for him!

Since shes been sick she spends alot of time with me because I live in the basement and there is plenty of room to hide and its cold in the basement and I think it might help her feel better. She's become my cat when shes sick. I think its because I leave her be and don't mess with her like my dad does! lol, she purs like hell though whenever he picks her up.

I'm so sorry to hear about Kitty. We had a rottweiler that had a spinal problem and he couldn't walk for a while. He got better for a couple months, then he deteriorated again and eventually died. He didn't have cancer though. We used to rub him down with a type of ointment and we used to massage his legs. He used to open his mouth widely when we did that as if he was enjoying it. I prayed for Kitty. I'm really sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted on her condition. Animals give us so much unconditional love. Humans don't give unconditional love as often. We have so much to learn from animals. Just remember that God is with her - no matter what happens and he will always guide her, protect her and love her - in this world and the next. :)

Remembering and celebrating loved ones, and being generous enough to let other members share your experiences is one of the greatest things you can do here. I don't think it matters if those who are loved have fur. If it's okay, I will be praying for as little pain as possible.

CD- i remember when our puppy passed on. i think the best thing you can do is just love him. he sounds like a darling cat, and a much appreciated member of your family. he's a very lucky cat, and i know you've made his life with your family a happy one. love him, appreciate him, cuddle him. that's the best medicine you can give him.

I'm sorry. Losing a beloved pet is very painful. We lost our cat Juliet last year (she looked a lot like your little friend). It was a harsh way to go, too. She had some crazy thing go wrong with her liver and could no longer keep any kind of food down, so she basically starved to death. We euthanized her after trying everything we could to get nutrition to her.

I can relate... I just lost my "Kitty". I called her "Ratcat". The wife does not want another cat, which is even sadder.

Aww...your kitty looks so precious! Stories like these about people's cats get to me more than anything. I really hope you can make the best out of these last times for your cat. Best wishes.

Sorry about Kitty. We had to have our cat put down after being ill for a while and getting worse, they could nothing, and we couldn't let him keep on having that terrible life. It is SO hard, it's been 3-4 years and I still cry when I think about him. We haven't gotten another...he was too great! I pray for little pain for Kitty and for you to be able to give your cat what you can. Big hugs for you!
