The cake is a lie
Yesterday was awesome. There are no other words for it.
When we first went in there weren't a lot of people there, since it was about 9:30. We had to wait about 15 minutes in line, then gave our registration forms to the person, got our bag with promotions and event times in it, and went to look around at the artists that had set up.
There was lots of good art. I'm not an art buyer, but if I was I would have snagged a lot of stuff there. As it was I came very close to getting one piece, and would have had it been in color. There were people doing hats and headbands from Naruto, which were EVERYWHERE this year. A lot of people also had kitsune masks, too (I managed to get a handmade/painted one for $10 before they sold out. Score!).
At 10 we listened to some guy give a speech about how long AWA had been going on (this was its 11th year and my 2nd of attending), then they opened the dealer's room to much cheering. We flooded in and looked around... so much stuff. They had a DDR competition set up in the back, and I saw some pretty good dancing the little time I spent back there. A lot of things were overpriced, though, so I didn't buy much. I did get the AniMatrix for $5, a weasel plushie (it came free with the movie), a CD by Select Start (whom we also saw; they rearrange game music for classical music. They sounded awesome), these sticky buns with chocolate in the middle (SO GOOD! It tasted like nothing I'd ever had before; kind of like ice cream, actually)... I think that's all I got. I'll edit to add more if I look through my stuff and notice anything else.
We got to see Yoko Ishida in concert (not only was she cute, she sang well!) while she was on tour, which was pretty cool. We ended up leaving when the Para Para dancers came in, though, since everyone stood up and started dancing; between me not being able to dance and about being squished, we decided to flee.
From there (this was about 8 at night; we spent a lot of time looking in the dealer's room, artist displays, and in the con suite getting free food) we went to the main video room, since Final Fantasy: Advent Children was coming on in 3 hours and we wanted a seat. We ended up waiting for about 40 minutes before two seats showed up, which we had to cut off a guy to get (I felt kind of bad, but he had just walked in the room and we'd been waiting there). From there we watched two episodes of the Ah! My Goddess! TV series and one of the Inuyasha movies. I've never considered myself a fangirl, but when everyone starts screaming in glee at the screen it's hard to not scream along.
Everything leading up to it was pretty good, and we sat next to a guy who was pretty nice and conversational (but not obnoxiously so). Then, the moment we'd been waiting for: Advent Children. They tried to cram as many people as they could in the room, because they were going to show it as many times as it took for everyone that wanted to see it to see it. Shove hundreds of people in a room with poor AC, and it gets pretty hot.
Anyway, after about 15 minutes of waiting... Advent Children started! Every time a character from the game appeared, we would scream like crazy. It was absolutely awesome. The character designs were amazing and kept true to the game. There were many fighting scenes, most of which ignored the laws of physics, but that was okay because the game did as well. My favorite part (this doesn't spoil anything, I promise) was when a favorite character of mine had just fought someone, and then the victory music from the game started playing. Everyone cracked up. It turned out it was a character's cell phone on the movie. More cracking up. The movie was wonderful and ended well, and resolved everything I wanted to know about the end of FFVII that hadn't been told in the game.
If you haven't see it, you really should. It's awesome.
And that was my Saturday.
